TFT Monitors

Another thing you might look at (other than resolution) is refresh rate and response rate. Refresh, the higher the better (120 is great, 60 is low/average). Response rate is how long it takes for the screen to show your actions (especially important in games and action movies...)

oh, and iiyama gets another vote from me!

60Hz is more than adequate for LCD / TFT as 120 is near impossible on CRT's let alone TFT.

The reason being that if you have interlaced images and a frame rate of 30 (usually 26) then you can get two frames to update the image.

As you need at least 26 frames a second to have smooth motion then it is enough.

Refresh rate on TFT is not as important as the screen does not black out with a blank period like CRT's do because they are backlit. Some TFT's like my Apple 24" really dont function that well at higher rates than 60.

Response time is yet another thing and it is improved greatly with image engines that allow more processing of pixels in busy areas and less in areas not being changed. That way you can reduce the processing power needed by as much as 90% less.

Usually the graphics cards and image engines account for far more of the desireable qualities of the monitor than the monitor itself does. IT is a balance made of active elements.
