the glow light stays on

Hi, I have a Mercedes E220 cdi the glow light on dashboard stays on after the engine is on as well. Does anybody know what could be the problem

I am not technical by any means but I can echo that diagnosis - same thing happened to me a few months ago....light stayed on for a few minutes after engine start. Also got the 'Check Engine' light come after a while as well (few days of glow plug light coming on).

Glow plug swapped under warranty and all sorted.

I have an R-Class 320cdi, and had the same issue with the glow light staying on until after the engine had started. Once the engine warmed up/after a few minutes the light went out.

I replaced the 6 glow plugs (No point in doing one as the cost is low relative to your time in getting to them!) in about 3 hours and now all is much good.

I read a number of posts prior to doing it, and read that some could seize/shear off on removal, including seeing a very painful extraction on youtube, but as I said they all came out pretty quickly and easily in my case. Just don't over torque them on the way back in!

If i remember correctly I needed a 8mm long reach socket.

Oh, should have said that you can test the resistance, if it is 6-7 ohms then the plug is good, I had one which was infinitey...

I had exactly the same problem. One or more glow plugs are gone.

Change the lot of them if you can - pays off in the long term.
