Hi

Thought that I would take my W124 TE for a spin today only to find that the interior was full of condensation.....

The trouble with most older cars that are not garaged over the winter months is that they tend to collect moisture if not used and ventilated regularly. Took me about ten minutes to dry it off inside! :(

Not sure if a waterproof external cover would help the situation...

I use a small dehumidifier in my 124 Wagon which is garaged. They do get damp and they do not like it. Mound can quickly take hold.

Hi, unless you take them off weekly, covers can do more damage than the open air, try for a breathable one, but you'll still need to take it off periodically.

Hi. Place a plastic box full of salt in your car. You will be amazed at how much moisture it will remove from the air. Leave the top of the box open or off. If the car is very damp do not be surprised if you have a container of water in the morning. Any kind of salt will do. If you are a tight bugger pour the water away and dry the salt in the oven.:)

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.

I may just try putting a container of salt in the car to see what difference that makes....

I bought a kind of dehumidifier sponge thing from Amazon when I had the 230 and it worked well- about £10 IIRC and seemed to soak up a lot of moisture

Having done some research on the web I have decided to go purchase and try Silica Gel Desiccant.

Its the stuff that often comes in the packaging of new products to reduce moisture build-up. I have gone for the Self Indicating (Orange to Green) Silica Gel Desiccant which can be 're-generated' ....... so they say.....

Product Features
  • Loose self indicating silica gel beads
  • Silica gel beads are orange and turn dark green when saturated with water
  • These silica gel beads are non-toxic
  • Bead size is approx 2mm-5mm
  • Beads can be regenerated by heating in an oven at between 100C and 120C (remove all packaging and heat on an oven proof tray)
  • Removes humidity in sealed packages preventing corrosion, condensation, damp, mould etc
  • Silica gel can adsorb and hold up to a third of its weight in water vapour

Once it arrives I will try out and let you know that results...
