I have three accounts in my desktop.

Mine, as administrator and two others.

Recently mine blue screened and produced the message "The User Profile Failed The Login".

Both the other accounts are fine.

There's loads on the net about this but they seem to be based upon starting the PC in safe mode and accessing the administrator profile via that route.

I can't get mine to recognise F8 on startup to go into safe mode.

Also, if I access one of the other accounts and try to access my stuff via Explore, it asks me for my administrator password, but doesn't respond to it. It doesn't tell me it's incorrect (which happens if I type something else in) - it likes it, but doesn't let me get any further :dk:

Any ideas guys?

The OS is Vista Home.

Thanks,

I suggest trying the following.

Go to start menu, locate command prompt and right click and say run as administrator and when prompted use your admin userid and password.

Then in the box type

Chkdsk c: /f

Thats chkdsk(space)c:(space)/f

Then hit return and say yes to pwrforming a checkdisk at next boot.

Then reboot the pc, let it do a scan and I suspect it might find and fix a number of security descriptors before allowing normal logon access again.

Mission accomplished via method one, thanks for the advice.

I note that the set of instructions with the .ba/bak mods is repeated, which caused a bit of head scratching.
