Some of you may recall that I ordered a GL320CDI 4 weeks ago and it is due to be delivered mid March. The wait is killing me, I am really looking forward to collecting it This is my (our) first Mercedes, after having been a BMW fan (and owner) for the past 3 years. I have seen very few GLs out and about on the roads, in fact I saw one in Glasgow the other week and the only other one has been on a Top Gear repeat when they did the cross London Public Transport/Cycling/Driving/Boating challenge! James May drove it across London and was not complimentory!
My GL is currently sat in Stratstone Blackburn compound awaiting to be taken to a disability conversion specialist near Chesterfield to have a boot mounted electric wheelchair hoist fitted (at a cost of £1780 and that does not include VAT! - it is VAT exempt) and then it is off to have the windows tinted at a company in Preston (negotiated as part of the deal) before it finally arrives at MB of the South Lakes in Ulverston. I was hoping my car would have the chrome roof bars - a great contrast with black paint) but it has the matt black ones, it seems to be a bit of a lottery as to which finish the roof bars come in. This is borne out by the Approved Used Cars on the MB website, it is not an option, I guess it must be to do with build dates.
I think the GL will feel a lot more refined and luxurious compared to the current Disco 3. I will have both the GL and the Disco 3 on the drive, as well as the Mini Cooper. until the end of May. I wanted to terminate the Disco 3 lease 2 months early but the company (Motability) would not have it!
Anyway, counting the days!
