The White Dog

sorry to see this .. I really understand your pain.

at least it's clear you need a new bumper!

don't use the chap I used to repair my bumper ...

Hey Sean, thanks for taking the time to post up... I know you have been busy with things.

Yes, a new bumper, it certainly seems that way.

No, I won't use that bodyshop guy, the one I have in mind is just round the corner from Maidstone Mercedes.

Hope to see you soon Sean and I'll let you know how things go.

...
Rashman - And to think that I was going to suggest this place for a visit:-
thebullditchling.com‎ but maybe it is a bit large for you.

Sorry to hear about the incident, sadly these things do happen -I drove for 20 years without an insurance claim before buying my C240 ( btw - thanks for the earlier picture ) and it was hit 5 times within the first 3 years that I owned it.

I do have just a couple of pictures of the Scottish tour and two more of today meet.
I have a question - 'Why do all of my photographs look like there is a drug deal going down ?'

Hahahahaha... you're a funny bugger Ray! :D

I hear what you say. :)

Thanks for your wise words and for posting up bud. Hope to see you with us again soon!

Gutted mate :(

Hopefully the dog will be alright, it could have been a hell of a lot worse - for both of you!

Maidstone Mercedes uses them probably ...

They have their own bodyshop but I make sure they don't use them because they are really bad! Had a bad experience with them with my old CLK.

The service manager knows what I mean to because they even let him down recently!

But they also use the guys that I am going to use. They should be able to sort it.

Hey Karl,

Yes, you're absolutely right.
It really was a lucky escape for the car and the dog to be honest.

I'm hoping the dog will be ok. He just seemed to have a hurt leg and not much more.

I'll probably ring the vet tomorrow to see how he got on.

Thanks for posting up bud.

Bad luck there Rashman, but at least the car got a good airing today.

I suspect you won't be able to claim for the damage, but one avenue may be the dog owners house insurance, which may cover all liabilities.

I'm surprised how weak the bumper appears to be.

If it wasnt the CLK63 version (without the side fins) I reckon it would be still in one piece.

Hey DM,

Yes, it was at least good to get the car out.
It was a great drive and very enjoyable.

Yes, I hear you about the claiming. I'll have to tackle this tomorrow once I've spoken to the police and the insurance company.

I too was surprised at the damage too.

But then, if the dog weighed around 6kg, it was bound to cause significant damage coming into contact with a car doing 30mph.

Also, the vents in the side of the bumper would have concentrated the stresses in particular places of the bumper, making it more likely to snap at the points it did :(

it's suffered from structural weakness caused by excessive cleaning and waxing :)

Your last two runs sound like great days out.

Life's for living, cars are for driving, not being cleaned and sitting in garages...

Sorry to hear this, hope the dog makes a full recovery.

Very bad luck for you mate, I'm gutted for you as I know how much you look after your beast.

hey bud,

Thanks for posting up.

Yeah, I'm hoping the dog will be ok too.

Gutted for my car too. Really couldn't do anything to avoid it.
The little guy literally bolted for my car just as I was level with it

New bumper and a good paint job and it'll be good again.

Hopefully a cast for the dog's leg and a bit of care will see him good too.

Really sorry to hear about the dog and car.

Perhaps the dog owner will do the right thing and offer up something for the damage caused, after all they are supposed to be responsible for the dog (and failed to stop at the scene of the accident by the sound of it) and it could have been a lot worse all round!

I hope the dog recovers and your car gets a decent repair job

Hey Steve, thanks for your thoughts.

Yes, I'm hoping the dog owner will accept responsibility.
I'm of the mind that a dog owner should take all necessary measures to secure their dog when it's outside.

It's not just about causing damage to cars.. what if a dog frees itself from a poorly secured lead and harms a child/ person or even another dog.

It's the owners responsibility to prevent this from happening.

Before leaving the scene himself, the owner openly told me that the dog had got out of its harness - which to me is an admission of neglegence.

It's not the dog's fault. Poor bugger.

I'll have to get into this tomorrow and see how it pans out.

Good to see you today Steve - hope to see you again soon!

Sorry to see this - hope your beloved car is fixed quickly and the dog isn't badly hurt.

The dog's owner is legally liable for any damage caused by it so potentially your insurance company could go after them to recover costs. If they've got any sense they'll have at least 3rd party cover, but I guess plenty of people don't bother.

Incidentally veterinary fees can be pretty scary if you don't have insurance for that. Someone I know ended up re-mortgaging his house after his dog was hit by a car - the vet charges came to £16k!

Hi mate, thanks for your kind words. :thumb:

Blimey, that is one expensive vet bill!

Yes, as harsh as it sounds, I believe that the dog owner is liable too.

I'm going to report it all to the police tomorrow as suggested to me today when I called the police when I got home today and let them seek the details of the owner. Once they have that, I can then use this with my insurance company.

I will also call my insurance company while the police are getting this information.

I'm really hoping that this won't become a headache! :(

I hope you get it sorted, but a little nagging voice tells me a chap in a mobility scooter is unlikely to have pet insurance or the means to pay. I hope it isn't a dreadful headache, and the dog is also ok.

Freakish coincidence though.
