The White Dog

So I have spoken to my insurance company who confirmed to me that the work has been approved and that this approval was sent to The bodyshop. They also emailed me confirmation of this approval.

So I've spoken to Maidstone Mercedes..

I wanted to know that the parts I need have been ordered.. more importantly, my front bumper as this will definitely need to come from Germany (there's no way there is going to be a CLK63 front bumper sitting in stock in the UK!)

Maidstone Mercedes have told me that the bodyshop have not ordered any parts yet :mad:

Apparently they are still negotiating a deal with the insurance company?!

What the Jive?!?!?!

I said to Maidstone - "The work will need to be done regardless of what deal the bodyshop makes with the insurance company, so why the hell haven't they ordered my parts"?!

The insurance company has approved the work, so them fighting over a few quid here and there is by the by as far as I am concerned!

I told Mercedes to get on to the bodyshop and order my parts.

...... update.....

Just got of the phone from the bodyshop!

They will be ordering my parts tonight (which could mean tomorrow!)

I spoke to a guy called John, who seems to be taking ownership of this job at their end.

I spent a while telling him of my previous experience with them with my old. I told him my concerns. I told him that I would like the new bumper sprayed and then for the Service Manager to inspect their work prior to me popping over and inspdcting it myself.

I told him that I do not want to bring my car to them until the new bumper is sprayed to the required standard and ready to be installed. I am not taking my car there just to sit for a day or two while they spray the new bumper.

I told him that my car is in immaculate condition, as he saw when I took my car up there on tuesday, and that this work has to be spot on, first time.

He has said that the guys there have been briefed about the pending work (the first guy that answered the phone remembers me and my old car)

If they think I was protective of my old car, they ain't seen nothing yet!

John acknowledged my concerns and said that this would be an opportunity to build my confidence in them.

He said that he would like me to bring my car up at some stage to have the colour confirmed - he said that some Mercedes colours have variants so he wants to make absolutely sure they know which colour they need.

I told him that I believe there is only one "Iridium" silver colour, but I may be wrong, so I am happy to take my car to Maidstone Mercedes and for John to pop over from the bodyshop to confirm.

I will pick a dry day next week and do this.

Bumper may well take a week to arrive.

Had a late call from John at the bodyshop. Apparently there are 2 variants of "Iridium" silver, so I will take my car up there next week some time.

I'm thinking I could perhaps take them the broken-off piece of bumper to match their paint, but I'm not sure how big a panel they need for comparison purposes. I will ring him tomorrow and ask him.

Taking the broken-off piece of bumper to them to match the paint would save me disturbing my car, enduring busy town traffic and any possible rain.

When my s124 was pranged in the back in Russia, they took the fuel filler cap to MB parts dept to get the paint match.

Good call Rash

take ur broken bumper should be enough for them to match, there is only one iridium silver the other silver is the 744 silver from the 55`s.

All paint colours have multiple versions, depending on age of car and if the paint was thinner/thicker at the time of spraying.

Best take the car down to see them TBH otherwise you might not get a perfect match. - I cant belive they wouldnt insist on this?

I thought your car was 744 Brilliant Sliver???

Will they not want to blow it into the wings? Also would have thought they would spray the parking sensors, headlamp washers and towing eye cover!

I have never met a bodyshop who was confident to use the previous colour on those.

Just seen this mate

Hope the dog is ok and your car gets put back to it's former glory, and fast :thumb:

I had a call back from the bodyshop tonight to say there are 2 versions of Iridium silver

I'm going to call them again tomorrow to discuss the best method of matching the paint.

No, my car is iridium silver.

Apparently they won't necessarily need to blow it into the wings and should well be able to do it without.. providing they get the match right.

I note what you say about the headlight washers etc... I will talk to them about this tomorrow too.

Hey Justin, hope you are well :thumb:

Dog didn't make it I'm afraid :(

Car should be sorted soon.

Parts have been ordered.

Just need to make sure they do a good job with the paint

Looking good here. I just met a bloke from Maidstone Mercedes in Homebase. He was buying a giant tub of Iridium Silver Dulux and 6" brush. Should look good.

A good bodyshop should be able to match that bumper spot on mate.
My bodywork guy matched my front wing off of the car with just a small wing trim to go by. When i fiited the wing it was spot on without having to blow a door in :)

Are you serious?

Sent from my GT-I9300 using MBClub UK

Considering how you look after your car mate, I wouldnt settle for anything less than taking your car down there so he can match it up with his swatches! - I know I wouldnt.

IIRC, there are 7 flavours of 744, so there most likely are the same for yours too.

if the bodyshop uses Mercedes' paint system (Glasurit, I think), all you need is the paint code, and the match will be perfect .. especially as your car's paint has not suffered any wear or fading.

if bodyshop does not use Glasurit, find 1 that does.

this makes me very uncomfortable ...

MB has the build information for your car, including paint code ... if bodyshop uses Mercedes paint system, that's all it needs.

they don't sound like they know what they are doing

Hi Rash,

Well, I have been away in Canada and spent my first waking hours here reading your thread (2 cups of tea later).

OMG. . what a nightmare mate. I know how you feel (and then multiply it by 10 for you as I know how you take care of your baby).

As you know mine was "bashed" a short time ago, but I am thankfully pleased with the outcome etc. For you, the added emotional element due to the animal and the poor dog owner (good call by the way) and the furustration of the insurance company etc has made the whole event a consuming mental occupation I am sure.

Just wanted to wish you all the best with it and hope the repairs go to the standard you need.

(arm around shoulder)

Cheers Rash. Good man and very hard luck in the circumstances.
