Thieving Ba***rds

Sorry to hear this Rich. I have also had the same fate as you on 3 occassions. Its just the worst feeling ever. I just wish I knew who these thieving B*****DS were and give them a piece of my mind. It just makes my pee boil.

For future reference, when you install any new items in your car like sat nav, stereo, get everything etched / security coded. I have done this on all my items and not just in one place BUT EVERYWHERE, and any f****er who tries it this time will have a damm hard time of trying to flog my goods.

Again all thanks for the sorrys :) when you work honest and hard for a living and pay your dues and some no doubt jobless crack taking scrote takes your hard earned possessions it makes you near homicidal, i dread to think what i would do if i ever caught someone - i fear a courtcase would follow, GBH for sure! but what takes the piss is i pay fully comp insurance and all they will give me is 100quid on the tomtom which to replace is a good 500 quid, tossers! any tips and hints for a better insurance return much appreciated.

I'm terrified of someone nicking my COMAND unit and there's nothing I can do hide that.

If there's any consolation or silver lining to be salvaged from your cloud, at least your replacement TomTom can be from the new updated TTG x10 range, like the 910.

Rich, sorry to hear bad news, I had my car broken into a couple of weeks ago, £50.00 excess of the glass and £150 excess on the radio:( The replacement was only £300, in my case, the police were not interested. I now ALWAYS remove the flip front and leave nothing on display. Sad world we live in.

With regards the Tom Tom, could that not covered on house insurance? Daft question I know but worth the ask.

When my car got broken into in Manchester the nice people who did it poo'd on the rear seat and pee'd all over the front seats. Even after a full valet the car used to stink if it was left in the sun... I traded it in on a cold day...

A friend of mine who lives in Dubai leaves his Merc unlocked with the windows half open and sometimes leaves his keys in the ignition... never been touched... I wonder why... maybe our government should learn from the Dubai justice system!

I strongly agree with this. Chop their hand if it is for theft, chop their crown jewels if its for rape etc.. Sadly our government is powerless to adopt this law due to the pathetic human rights lobby!!! Its sad but true that the criminals have a far better justice system than the victims in this country.

i will definately be looking into wether i can get a claim on home/contents insurance and will most definately be furnishing myself with the latest tomtom 910 when i can afford to. will let you all know what happens with the claim ;)

Shocking ... sorry to hear this :( My Satnav is also my phone, so always comes out of the car with me ... all you can do is make it as difficult as possible for them and not leave anything tempting on display. I'm not too far from Henley myself, and its a bit worrying to know that this stuff is going on so close to home ... never had a problem myself but luckily my car is always garaged at night.

Hope they find the scumbags and chop their thieving fingers off !

Unfortunately, Rich, I suspect this is they way insurance companies work. A few years ago, we had two mountain bikes nicked off the back of our car. The car insurance paid for the rack, because it was 'a fitment' but not for the bikes, because they weren't.

Luckily, household insurance paid for the bikes (which I had insured separately, due to their value).

I suspect your insurance co will have a similar attitude to the TomTom, but household insurances often cover personal posessions when away from the house (people have been known to claim for golf clubs and the like, stolen when away from home).

Good luck

PJ, did the claim affect the premiums of the contents insurance at all? the home im staying in at the moment is not mine so asking the owner may be ok if there are no adverse stipulations in the back of the claim.

cheers Rich

Rich,

No, our premiums weren't affected. We're allowed three claims in a rolling twelve month period or something. Again, I think this is policy/insurance co dependent.

I think you're saying that you don't pay the insurance at the moment. If so, and if making a claim is going to be a problem, you could always offer to reimburse the landlord for the increase in premiums, which is bound to be cheaper for you than buying a new TomTom.

That's assuming the insurance will pay out New for Old. If they do, you can get the equivalent model TomTom. If not, you'll need to prove what it cost you, and they'll reimburse that.

With our bikes, the insurance company sent a letter to the place we bought them from, authorising us to spend up to £xxxx on new bikes (the original cost). Pain in the bum, cos it was miles from where we lived then...

its not that i dont want to pay any insurance its a case of ive just split up with my wife and i dont live in the marital home as such. im staying with my aunt so as its her house i dont want to take the piss and cause her any unecessary probs in terms of her property insurance. also the afore mentioned split is much to do with the fact i havent been around / online so much these last few months but that is another issue.

Well I'm sorry to hear that you're going through the mill a bit. This latest thing is all you need!

It's good to have you back though. :)

Like I say, you could offer to pay your aunt the increase in her premiums, but I'd expect that for a claim of the value you're talking about, there shouldn't be any change to her future costs.

Sorry to hear about all your woes mate. I truly hope you get everything sorted out the way you want it.

too many scratters in this world.

Sorry to hear this. some people dont realise that some people place as much money as they can spare into their cars no matter how much or indeed, how little they have available.

Cant think of anything to say that helps really. Still, it will be a pleasure to see you, if you can make it to the GTG on july 1st. then we can all discuss what we do with the people who did this without fear of it being put in print.:)

Rich sorry to hear of theives stealing from you. I am firmly in the "chop their hands of" camp.

A lesson to everyone here don't leave ANYTHING in your car.

One of our customers recently (about two weeks ago) had a surreal theft experience. He gets up in the morning and goes out to the car to find the window smashed but nothing apparently taken, except THE BONNET!!

I had a couple of minor houshold contents insurance claims a few years back over a 2 year period. (garage broken into and power tools nicked (claime of about £600 and broken glasses, claim of about £60) At the next renewal date I tried shopping around for a better deal. I found several of the insurance companies (Direct Line was one of them) who weren't interested in providing a quote as I was high risk! I ended up stuck with the same insurer for several years.

Sorry to hear about your trouble Richard. Its a sickening feeling and I hope you get everything replaced soon. chin up eh! dont let the B'stards grind you down.
