My 17 year old gave me a scare yesterday when I was called out to this;

Slid off the single track road which was a sheet of ice.

Fortunately he is fine (dented pride) and the car was dragged out with a recovery truck. Amazingly the body seems to be unscathed but getting the underside checked for safety.

Glad he is OK. He will have learnt his lesson I'm sure.

Yup that's par for the course for 17 year olds, lucky he missed the tree off to the left!

Glad he was OK. I did something similar at that age, also with no injuries and (very) minor cosmetic damage. RWD and cross-ply tyres in the wet, in my case.

Cross ply? How old are you?:p

Best sort of accident for a 17 year old to have - one where he does not get hurt, but has his confidence shaken...

Roads are slippy out there - I noticed a Focus spinning round a roundabout in my mirror this afternoon.

Oi whippersnapper. Have some respect for your elders. I've owned many cars running on cross-plies.

Once, in my early 20s, I made the mistake of thinking that the brand new cross-ply tyres on my Austin A55 Cambridge would be at least as good as the old tyres I had the day before. A snow covered road and a cyclist falling off in front of me proved that theory wrong! A slight swerve to avoid the cyclist sent me sideways into a ditch, which converted my progress into a barrel roll! Somehow not a mark on the bodywork - just a stain on my trousers. I was pulled out by a lorry using a massive chain that bent my number plate. So the only things bent there were the number plate and my pride. Over 40 years later and I'm still very careful on potentially slippery roads.

Been on a ramp and no damage to underside or fuel and brake lines happiy. Tracking and camber all Ok, and buckled wheel fixed. Good news all round I guess.

He is going to have a new found respect for ice hopefully

My first car (1977) had Michelin radials. What were you driving?
A 1971 Vauxhall Viva HC 1100. I replaced it with a 1973 Viva 1800, which had radials :thumb:

First icy/snowy morning of the winter here in Norfolk, during my commute I came across a honda on it's roof and then a mile down the road a Mondeo in a ditch! Glad I had my winter tyres on, my conti wintercontact 830p's felt solid as a rock.

Glad your son's ok Smillion
