This is more like it - Old SL 6.0 AMG

the engine just looks like a normal 5 litre?
Im pretty sure this is one that was advertised in birmingham about a yr ago for 9995... A friend went to look at it for me and said the mileage did not correlate with condition of the car...

I think the 6.0 V8's were bored out 5 litre engines , so i suppose it would look the same.....

The guy says that there are some 'cosmetic' issues to be addressed, but as we all know one mans 'cosmetic' issues are another mans 'major problems'

I think its stunning! imagine what this could be with some money thrown at it!!

Sorry but that is disgusting
Yeah I think the black and red colour scheme is the cosmetic problem he was talking about ;)

that is absolutely hideous.

Beauty is not skin deep.....

Imagine with a bit if TLC and a decent paint job and some chrome..... Look at the 190mph speedo!

Have you guys left your glasses at home today, or just been on the crack pipe too much as its friday ? :D  ;)

Its a classic AMG for god's sake, thats how they made them in the '80's !!

A gorgeous car .....

I can appreciate it for being what it is - a classic '80s AMG.

However, I could never like it as it is horrible and completely lacking in style or taste.
By the way, I don't usually start on the crack pipe until at least 5pm on a Friday

But it was made when women wore shoulder pads, Gordon Gecko worked on Wall Street, and greed was good !

You could listen to Gary Numan or Huey Lewis while driving it .....

It does look like the same car that was for sale for ages by a classic car dealer in Birmingham.

Being a complete saddo, I've just dug out my old Fast Lane magazine which test drove the AMG SL in January 1986 and I would like to confirm that its not the magazine car, as that had Mushroom coloured seats, and the door cards and lower part of the dashboard was also light coloured. The centre of the wheels on AK47 were also painted red, whilst the outers were high gloss alloy.

AK47 was also a 5.4 litre and not 6.0.....power was lifted from 231bhp to 310.....not bad for just a 0.4 increase in capacity and slightly reworked heads for better breathing. .....work consisted of a rebore, AMG Camshafts and Crankshaft, enlarged and polished ports, polished inlet manifold, and tweaked Bosch fuel injection.

Despite all this engine work, the car stuggled to reach 150, whereas the stock 5.0 SL had a top speed of 135......no doubt something to do with aerodynamics on the SL body. Acceleration, however, looks much better than standard!!

Cheers
Vlad

Just noticed from the photos of the car on e-bay that the mileometer part of the speedo is in KM's,whereas the speedo itself is in MPH.....whats that all about?

So if it says that its done just 51,000, does that mean only 31,600 miles?....surely not
