This should get blood boiling

The speeding isn't a crime as such and you will not have a criminal record as a result.

The failure to abide by court sentencing or purgery are the serious crimes.

you mean the way burglars and pickpockets fail to abide by them and then get warned again?
someone a disqualified driver/ drug dealer for one year was caught.
the punishment, disqualify him for 2 more years. That will surely teach him a lesson like the first disqualification did.

If I take a car that is not mine and then 2 hours later I get caught driving it, that is not theft it is TWOC?? ;) or is it Twit-a-Too-Woo

I take someone's £2000 watch, and 2 hours later I get caught wearing it, then is that theft? I say that I had NO intention of keeping it, I'm merely seeing if I like it! Is that taking a watch without the owner's consent, or is it theft?

Yup, I hate this new age legislation, if someone takes my car without my consent, then it is theft. There would be little, or no chance of me ever finding my car without outside assistance and unless the thief tells me where he 'parked' my car then I say 'ang 'im and hang him by his dangly bits. A thief is a thief. :)

Shop Lifting = Theft or burglary
Mugging = Robbery

The points you make are exactly right and are the blindingly smart ideas that Solicitors advise their clients every day. They aren't new by any stretch - they relate back to the Theft Act.

Make you see why Carrotchompers job is as much an art as a science. And one that requires more skill than they tend to show on the telly...

The answer is simple.....

Throw them into the local pond, if they float they are guilty, if they sink and drown then they are innocent. Unless they float to the surface...... Then they are guilty:devil: :D

Who needs solicitors or legal aid :)

'ang em.

Speeding is not a recordable offence, so no matter how many times you get caught, you never end up with a criminal record as a result (if there are other offences associated with it, you may eg driving whilst disqualified, drink driving).

The others are recordable offences and on conviction or caution result in a criminal record.

I have never known anyone serve time in prison for speeding, but in the past 2 weeks I have for all of the other offences.

Not liking the consequences of the crime you are most likely to commit and being 100% convinvinced the cops are out to get you suggests that the system has got it right...

;)

Unfortunately the motorist might have a steady job with a regular income, they will have a degree of respect for the court and so will probably pay any fine. the poor misguided, misunderstood criminal will possibly come from a broken home, disturbed upbringing, victimised, persecuted, or harassed environment and through no fault of their own have no respect for any law, any court, or any public official, and there is no way they will pay any fine. As has been stated the police are now more social worker rather than thief catcher, so is it any wonder the criminal laughs at our judicial system. Have we even mentioned the dug dealers that break into our prisons. Yes the motorist is a soft touch, but we can argue that only the law breakers pay the fine   ;)

I know lots of people who have served time for driving offences too.

Just not speeding.

The reason you have not known anyone serve time for burglary is because you are a nice person who does not mix with naughty types.

 :D I think the detail is in the wording as most idiots that get jailed for speeding are actually convicted of dangerous driving and yes imprisonment is a punishment the court can and does award for this offence. :)

Dangerous Driving requires a significant amount of evidence more than speeding.

Speeding in itself does not presume to be dangerous, just that it is an offence in its own right.

100mph in a 30mph limit does not automatically become "Dangerous Driving".

:(

Agreed although 100mph in a 30 limit might take some swift talking :D

Isn't it nice to once again have a friendly debate without any sarcasm or innuendo?
