This will be interesting.

Client /Contractor and Architects are aware of the problem and are suggesting sand blasting glass as a method of overcoming it. Unfortunately that can affect light in/out and is expensive. Alternative suggestion is to apply film to the glass to prevent reflectivity - another costly option considering that the majority of the glazing is already installed.
Expect designers attempts to say problem only occurs for a short period each year even though there are examples of the same problem happening in other countries, with serious effects to people / property etc.

Professional Indemnity Insurers will be awaiting the claims with interest.

Unbelievable and very indicative of the 'world' in which architects live. 'I know let's build a 500ft parabolic reflecter in the middle of a city...what could possibly go wrong?'. Anyone remember the millenium bridge issues? Armies had been 'breaking step' over bridges for thousands of years!

Re The Millenium Bridge. I walked over it on the way to do Jury Service at The Bailey on the day it was closed. It felt awful.
Arup - the Structural Engineers responded to initial concerns and suggestions to seek advice from a French Consultant by replying that they did not need any help. Result - bridge closed and anti - vibration dampers fitted.

PI Insurers footed the bill I assume?

Plastic trim panels - clip off, clip on. Probably even come pre-painted.

Anything metal has remained unaffected.

Must be generating some serious heat though.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to paint NO PARKING at the focal point :dk:

Professional Indemnity insurers will be taking a long hard look at this one ..especially as the architect had exactly the same issue with another building he designed in Las Vegas where the heat / light was redirected into the pool deck area where it melted Sun loungers

Las Vegas 'Death Ray' Scorches Tourists, Melts Plastic - Max Fisher - The Atlantic Wire
Astounding! Not only a display of rank stupidity by an architect but none other than the same one!!!

Must be JoeBloggs spray shop for that price....certainly looks more than £946 damage to me, especially in a 'Jag stealer approved' body shop...

This doesn't bode well for Jag sales in the UAE.

As said, that C pillar trim is just a plastic panel.

To melt the plastic it needs a focused light source, not just strong sunshine.

Bullseye glass has been known to burn interior wood trim on boats.
