Hi all
Does anybody know what size the thread is on the exhaust side stud of a W123 2.0 ltr with a 102.920 engine ? I need to replace the exhaust gaskets so will probably replace the studs and nut at the same time. Fingers crossed an a little prayer that I don't snap one .
Any info is appreciated cheers.

What size of spanner is it for the nut ?

10mm normally = M6 x 1mm

12/ 13mm normally = M8 x 1.25mm

If you look it up one one of the online Parts catalogues it should give the information you want.

Be extremely careful when trying to remove the double ended stud in the manifold-- if you can get just the nuts off count your blessings. They will probably need a "tickle" with a welding torch. If memory serves correctly they are a fairly coarse thread.
The part number for the stud is N 000939 010138 but NLA

I don't think the manifold has ever been off and I'm having nightmares already about the studs and I haven't even started yet !

I’ve never had any real problems with the exhaust studs on M102 heads. Usually if the copper(?) nuts are tight the stud and nut will come out like a bolt, otherwise the nuts usually come out okay. Never had one snap though.

The bolts from the manifold to the downpipe are usually a bit more tricky but hopefully you should have enough wiggle room to leave it all attached?

Worth checking the bracket that supports the front pipe if it’s similar on the 123 to the 124/201 as they usually corrode where the clamp is, excess movement on exhausts usually causes headaches later down the line.
