To wax or not?

When I was a kid in the 90's, I owned an E30 BMW. I literally took the clear coat off one door with super resin polish because I polished that car so much. As it was an 88 model year and black, I assume that the door was once recoated because solid colors in those days, a solid color should have been single stage.

I had a yellow Corrado once.....you had to be REALLY careful polishing that as the paint was so soft that just wiping a clean white cloth over it left a faint yellow on the cloth. It was single stage with no clear coat. All I did was wash and wax it....too scared to risk polish with any sort of cut in it. It was a known issue....just very soft paint.

For a couple of years now, I have been using Meguiars Last touch detail spray. After washing & rinsing, while the car is wet, I lightly spray this all over including windows (not windscreen, Rainx for that), then one microfibre to remove standing water and spread the Meguiars. Then another microfibre to buff up. Takes less than 10 mins for the whole car. Easy & beads well after rain:thumb:

Is Rain-X really that good?

Everyone has an opinion on RainX, but I have been using it for years & think it's very good. Over 40mph, rain blows off the screen, below 40mph an occasional flick wipe is all that's required. Screen stays cleaner also in the area that the wipers don't sweep

In your experience, how many passes of the wiper would make the RainX effect wear off? (Apologies if this goes beyond the topic... I was just wondering)

Simple answer, don't know. Before I first used it, I made sure the screen was super clean. Used a glass cleaner spray them claybar ( see video) Applied the RainX according to instructions. That's it.
I probably re apply it when I feel I am using the flick wipe more. Less in the summer if there are less rainy days:confused: At a guess maybe every 6 weeks
One thing, when washing the car I do not apply any suds on the screen, only clean water. Hope this helps

I found Rain X was effective for a couple of weeks on very clean (cleaned with special Rain X cleaner (I think meths or surgical spirit would work just as well?)).
Isn't it weird not having to use wipers?
As far as waxing goes. If I'm feeling lazy, I pressure wash the mud off, snow foam, wash, towel dry then apply Autoglym Aqua Wax on everything, including glass! Works with no smears but this is on surfaces which are kept quite clean and treated regularly. It can be applied on top of anything just to add a bit of protection.
I'm constantly trying different products, trying to build up the perfect 'go to' collection. Hat tip to Meguiars. Good products.

I've used the RainX today for the first time. I must say I'm impressed! I did not expect it to make such a difference!

As I understand from the previous couple of posts, I should repeat the RainX application every month approximately... depending on how much rain/bad weather I might get.

I’m waiting for mine to wear off as I get too much wiper judder, it’s a little better already after a clean with glass polish.
