Tom Tom - new maps

So all 910s come with the latest maps

Are the camera updates free or is there a suscription from tomtom?

My 910 (bought in July) had European map v650, the one I downloaded is v660.

The speed camera updates are subscription, they had a special offer where you could get the cameras and the Traffic service together for reduced a price .. which is what I did. You get updates to mobile camera sites sent via your mobile phone (if you have one configured & connected), which is quite neat.

Update on this - I pointed out to Tom Tom the misleading nature of their email about the new maps (the one I got, anyway), and the fact that when bought via Tom Tom Home no warning about the 910 not needing an update was given (nor was a version number or release date for the new map visible before purchase).

They have now agreed to give me a refund :)

So you have a set of maps floating around then?

The maps are coded to only work on one specific device (although I'm sure this can be cracked if you are expert/determined enough).

May as well tack on to this tread.......

Searched the manual for my 910 but can't find out how long you are meant to charge the unit for or if there is a way of telling ig the battery is fully charged with the unit off.

Also in the options there is a option for linking the night view mode to headlights - how does this work and what interface do you require?

My manual says it takes 2 hours for a full charge (chapter 22).

There's an optional "CarConnect" unit that was announced in September
TomTom CarConnect
Besides the long-awaited TMC support, another accessory to be released is TomTom CarConnect. Firmware version 6.51 also supports this.

CarConnect helps to make for a better integration of all GO-models (and RIDER) with your car and available Bluetooth devices. The device is installed invisible to the eye behind the dashboard of the car, and enables route-instructions, phone calls and MP3 files to be played through the speakers of your standard headunit. It's also possible to let the GO switch between day or night view synchronously with the on or off switching of the car's headlights. The volume of the radio is muted each time sound is sent from the PND. The playing of MP3 files is still only possible with the recent x10 models, via the optional iPod Connect Cable.

It is very important that the CarConnect gets installed correctly. Because of this, TomTom will only acknowledge the warranty as valid if the device is installed through a TomTom approved and professional installer.
Not sure if this is actually available yet.

Ah yes I saw something about a additional bluetooth connect thing on the website.

Chapter 22 - I must have a different manual to you, no chapter 22. In fact no chapters. I did wonder how your average Joe would know how to operate it as the thick manual I have has only a few pages of the basics of the every aspect, but in every language known to man.

I'll check if there are any downloads.

I guessed well though as on the 2nd charge (it go played with a lot all day - reading text messsages was of great amusement) I charged for 2 hours only. Even though on the latest software version (I updated it straight away) I have had to use the reset button twice now to get it to switch on.

Hope these teething issues iron out.

In general I like it. Glad there are accessories for better integration, I certainly would if I had one for my car.

Generally I find I only need to reset it after its been connected to the computer. When its just being switched on/off normally I never have to.

Pretty sure the PDF manual is on the CD that comes with the unit, I think the printed one is just a 'getting started' guide.

From memory there's a battery status bar on the route summary (?) screen.

Software upgrades involving new GPS firmware do seem to involve more faffing about when you first switch the unit on afterwards, I've never had to use the reset button though.

By the way, you can download additional colour schemes for free via the Tom Tom Plus menu on the unit. I use one of those (called UK something) as my standard colour scheme now as it shows motorways in blue (which IIRC the default one doesn't). I'm quite happy with the default 'night' scheme.

Starting this thread again as TomTom say they have released new maps which do apply to the 510/710/910. Has anyone purchased them and are they worth upgrading to?

I'm interested in getting them - after my weekend up north, I am really disappointed with my current maps. I spent a lot of time on invisible roads!

lol - yeah you would have:D :D :D Tom Tom's not that brill up here:D

I can have a look tonight and let you know what version I bought (and got refunded for).

FWIW my maps are "Western Europe version 660".

My TomTom 910, for ref:

My app: 6.520
OS: 1387
GPS: 1.21
Boot: 4.86
Maps: Western and Central Europe 6.50.1052

Where do you find this information? I bought a 910 on Saturday (having given up with an iPAQ HX2490 + Navigator 6. The iPAQ has been a complete pain, usually requiring reset to start up. Finally got this sorted via a BIOS upgrade from HP, but now I need Europe maps, and will need USA maps later this year, my set of Navigator 5 Europe maps won't work with Navigator 6 of course, so the 910 it was!) and all I can find is the app is 6.525. Still having problems getting my TomTom Plus account switched over, I've emailed TomTom about this.
