Top Gear Petition, save the show

Wondered when someone would think of this..I am sure Richard Hammond would be appauled if he thought he was the cause of Top Gear getting pulled off the air.

Bad enough that he has been involved in this dreadful accident, without the nannys trying to put him out of work as well. If they don't like it they should read a book or something else when it's on TV

But the show hasn't been canned. So why have a petition for something that hasn't happened?

There have been demands in the past for Top Gear to stop being shown for numerous reasons by many people and it hasn't happened.

Its a waste of time

An easy way to get names for a motoring spam list.

I would think that a review of Top Gear is a dead certainty and in my opinion not before time, reminds me of the Las Vegas guy that almost had his head bit off by a Tiger, its entertainment not, true I do not have to watch it but still have to pay my TV licence, that gives me a say

I am afraid you pay your TV license for reception of radio or TV signals and would have to, even if you could not receive BBC:( So, maybe you don't have a say:D

I stopped watching it after JC BUTCHERED the S-Class .

You may feel that way. But seeing as there has been no statement from the BBC that they are going to review/cancel the show i feel it rather bizarre that they are going to take any notice of some infantile petition on a no mark website.

The viewing figures speak for themselves in terms of numbers who watch the program, that is enough for the BBC to take notice.

Where Top Gear has led - the others have followed.

Beg to differ. Its quoted on BBC News that the next series and the final best of show are being postponned pending a review.

A producer at the BBC is quoted as saying that they have said they have delayed the program until Hammond is fit to return. That is not the same as saying they are reviewing/postponing the program due to the nature of the accident - rather the effects of it - ie one of the producers is non-fuctional for now. This was in a piece done to camera by the BBC reporter at the Hospital - this is watchable via the BBC site.

I also found this quote:-

The BBC and the Health and Safety Executive will investigate the crash, and it is likely the programme - and its stunts in particular - will come under close scrutiny.
The broadcaster could not say on Wednesday whether plans for the new season would be affected by the accident.
"The new series is scheduled for October, but given the circumstances it is too early to confirm transmission dates," said a BBC spokeswoman.
"I don't think it's time for navel-gazing and looking at the future now," says Mr Harvey. "The only reaction is to be incredibly concerned for Richard."
"But up until this time yesterday, the future for Top Gear was incredibly rosy. I don't see any reason why it should have changed."

Can't find anywhere so far where it says its pending a review.

I'm saddened by what happened to Hammond. I think he's a fun bloke, and he's good to watch on the telly. I also hope he makes a full recovery and returns to TG (and his other work) in the fullness of time.

I also enjoy Top Gear on the TV (in the main). But as to a petition to save it; does it really matter?

Yes, it's fun, but so was climbing trees, and getting chased by the farmer when we nicked his fruit when I was a kid... Times change, things move on; and I really don't think it's healthy to get too wrapped up in a telly programme.

Oh, and the BBC couldn't give a toss what the public think anyway.

Of which i am guessing the relevant bit is:-

The BBC said in a statement that it had started an investigation into the accident and promised full co-operation with the HSE.
A BBC spokeswoman also confirmed the final part of the Best of Top Gear, due to be screened on 1 October, had been postponed indefinitely.

Now i may be jupming to conclusions - but the reason behind the postponement might be due to flying elephants, the sky going purple when pixies fly.... but i can't add two and two and make five and come up with its being postponed or under review due to investigation/criticism or anything else.

If however you go to the very same link, then quarter of the way down on the right hand side there is a link to a bit of video entitled Hammonds Progress, it gives a clearer view of the postponement.

Given the quote is in the news story about him, and the same piece of information had been conveyed by clarkson (in a similar vein) in the Times yesterday, and its also on the top gear website, why would I post it if I didn't believe it ?

Good luck with your pig and elephant, I'm just joining up a few pieces of published information.

The show is great entertainment which happens to use cars. Clarkson though, while funny, can be overbearingly arrogant. When I saw his incompetence when trying to build the Caterham I was surprised. His criticsm of James May for displaying an ordered competence, was childish.
When he set the caravan on fire (and views in our family vary from deliberate to accidental) the man was completely out of his depth. At that moment his credibility in my eyes, disappeared.

For goodness sake its TV entertainment.

That is all. A TV Show.

If people feel like protesting there are far more important things for you to protest about - that might just might have an actual impact on peoples lives.

Yes I have a say cos my dad is bigger than your dad, oh and if you look at your TV licence it has no mention of radio anywhere I think that was ditched years ago as impossible to inforce the only other equipment mentioned is DVD/video recorders. Just paid mine yesterday so I am current.

Hmm. With all due respect, if people feel like protesting about keeping this TV show, or any other, on the air, what does it have to do with you? Just because it's not important to you, it's not important to anybody, is that it?

I "signed" the petition as I enjoy Top Gear and want it back, in exactly the same format. I enjoy watching and reading Clarkson, Hammond and May immensely. They shove two fingers up to the PC brigade and for that alone they should be commended.

And, in case you hadn't noticed, there is the small matter of £174k (plus GiftAid) that has been raised which will have an impact on people's lives (money that would not have been raised had RH not had the accident filming for Top Gear).

Tell you what - keep adding your names to a petition that is easily faked and made up.

If it makes you feel better that you are stopping something that so far no one has said they are going to stop - then fine keep going. But you are feeding the detractors in The Grauniad and the people who will always come out against something like this. Sure members of the BBC will be against this... but put 100 people in a room and tell me they will all agree on something within an orginisation without having their own agenda/axe to grind.

Personally i think its a waste of time.

What follow up is there that this petition is handed in? Who within the BBC is it being handed to? Do they have any say so? etc etc
