I've done loads of top speed events on various bike over the years, the highest speed achieved being 238mph at Woodbridge, but I've never done one in a car.

So my question is, what will a standard E63 5.5 TT Estate do without its limiter?

What will it achieve with a little exhaust mod and say, 700ish HP? Is it going to get close to 200mph?

I see from the VMax results that standard delimited 63s (E or CLS/C)aren't getting much above 180mph.

Peter

My SL over 1.5miles had hit 201 on the clock 192.4 on the vbox but plenty left but lacked the straight to go higher and stop again.

The Cls with similar power hit 189 I think.

Cheers

Justin

Are you saying that you're about to give it a go?

Ha, but was that as standard or after you chucked another couple of hundred horsepower at it? :bannana:

Yup, always been one for doing rather than just watching/talking about it. :thumb:

A couple of hundred HP

Interesting. I wonder what it would need to reach 200 in 1.5 miles? Was that with a race start?

Standing both Race and non race didn't make much difference. An extra 30bhp give me 2mph based on passed experience.

I sc 63 with 850bhp under nos came close but I think was still short

To put into perspective the take a look at the vmax 200 website.

There aren't any MB 63s over 200MPH in the last couple of years according to the results. Favourite car for a big speed is the 911 it seems.

The 9eexx was putting out 1300bhp and mods were a cool 1/4 of a mil in cost.

My old SL was still quicker then most of the 991 turbo S and all the 458's even the special ones

Blinkin' flip.... :eek::eek:

Didn't ChrisA mention he had a calculated 212mph from his Weistec CLS55 on the autobahn?
Got to love the 55k engine:bannana:

That's the rub.

The W212 is pretty slippery, but it still has a big frontal area and weighs almost exactly 2 tons. Given enough distance, you might get close to 200mph out of a derestricted but otherwise unmodified E63, but you need lots of grunt to put on a few more mph in a limited distance.

As an academic exercise I plotted the wheel thrust cascades for my E63 based on a dyno run and found that for maximum performance you should let the engine rev out in the first four gears, but upshift from 5th to 6th at around 163mph, rather than letting it rev out to max rpm at 175mph, then let it rev out again in 6th. The thing is, once you're up around 160mph you only have about 60% of the wheel thrust you had available at 100mph, but more than 2.5 times the drag force. And it only gets worse as you go faster.

194 on speedo 189 on vbox both with standard start and in the wet.

I have little doubt both mine and J's car could hit 200mph given the space. Both have identical maps and breathing apparatus.

Jon's limited and stock E63 hit in excess of 160 on the VMax radar.

In 5th .

Once it's run in Pete, get a dyno run booked at MSL, which is where most of the tuned 5.5 t/t's have been tested, including Daveenty, Robin and Steve Maxwell.

Mine ran a very pleasing 638hp on said dyno, which corresponds with S figures from over the pond.

After that, let the tuning begin :thumb:.

This is my plan

They generally run more than advertised?

212mph in mine and 214mph in MSL's C63. Both stage 3 Weistec

GPS speed was 3mph lower on mine

On a dry, windless day I'm pretty sure the majority of modded MB's could reach the 200mph on a 1.5mile track.
Once you master the launch it's foot down all the way :thumb:

Looking forward to the next runway day
