Torque converter failure

I have a CLK 270CDI model Feb 03, 24000miles and the Torque Converter has had to be changed. Anyone out there who has experienced a similar problem?

Thought I might have to have mine done after the high speed runs at Bruntingthorpe.
I kept losing all drive after driving hard for the 2 miles, but seems to be ok now.
