Torque struts

That is the only danger from buying off ebay.

Have you tried to contact him over that the warranty not covering anything that has gone wrong.

I know that warranties do not cover wear and tear items but i would of thought that it would of covered the rear springs,

Was the service due when you got the car as i would of thought he could of least had the service done before you bought it

Tried contact but just getting a "thats the breaks" answer and trying to say that there was something wrong with my trade in.(I am not a trader and the trade in was my daily use car in better condition that the one i got) I specificaly asked about the servicing and was told it had a b sevice 2000 miles ago. Have since been unable to find any record of this on the Merc database. (no service book but lots of Merc receipts except for the last b service. am beginning to think that the service indicator was just reset! The warranty company refused the rear springs and from there I just gave up and didn't even try for the rest. Hopefuly the £2000 spent in the last fortnight has now got the car roadworthy and I can keep it that way from now on.

Has it been checked on the main mercedes database for service history because if you have loads of receipts for work done it should come up on the database.

Did they actually give you a reason why they refused the rear springs.

Yeah all the work you have had done are the most common faults that the e class suffers with

Yes its checked against the main dealer database by the dealer who did the work today. It all checks out against the receipts except for the lastt B service which I was only promised verbally had ben carried out. The details of this B service were given to the warranty company by the seller when he took out the warranty on my behalf.
the warranty company refused as they say it was existing fault being that I had only just bought it. I though that was the idea of awarranty to give peace of mind and was one of the reasons I felt safer buyng the car. Glad to hear that I addressing the right faults though and hopefully now it is in a roadworthy state. Thanks again for your time. My keyboard appears to be packing up as it is missing random letters sorry

Was all the services done at the same dealer and was it local to you because if it is you could go back there and get them to do a duplicate service book.

When we had a customer come into the dealer wanting an extended warranty the car would have to go through the workshop and have a multi point check and all the work that was found had to be rectified before the warranty would be honoured so i would take up the issue with the warranty company if the fault was there was a multi point check not carried out before the warranty was put on.

Just trying to remember any other common things we used to see in the workshop on that model of merc

H Willow132, sorry I didn,t get back to you last night but the keyboard all but packed up. Have just had it apart for a clean and we will see how it goes! The services seemed to mostly be dne in Blackpool, miles away from Bedfordshire. Once the funds permit I may ask a local dealer reference your suggestion of a duplicate service book.
I do not think it had a multi point check. Never hada warranty before sonot sure howthey operate apart from refusing help. If you do think of other common faults with the e class it would be much appreciated. Just had the battery warning lightfor stopping convenience functions today but I think that isjust because of a fw short runs running it down. Hope so anyway!

Take care and thanks agan.

You should be able to contact the dealer and get them to do a duplicate service book over the phone and get them to post it out to you. I know they used to do it in watford where i used to work.

So basically you paid him for a fake warranty really as its not worth the paper its written on.

Yeah it could be a few things that cuse the battery warning light to come on but if it is only doing short journeys it might be caused by that. The other thing to do is check the post date on the battery as the battery might be coming to the end of its life.

Wheres the post date located on the battery? How long does the battery normally last?

If you look on top of either the battery posts.

It will read something like 36 08. The 36 stands for the week of the year and the 08 would stand for the year it was manufactured so it was the 36th week of 2008.

It all depends on how the battery has been treated but i would expect 5-6 years maybe longer if looked after well.

But a clear sign on the 211 and 230 is the warning coming up n the dash

What about on the ML163?

I would expect to see the same sort of life but its a little more difficult to see the signs.

The only signs you would really see is poor starting i.e taking longer to turn over or turning over slower. or battery flat in the morning etc

Thanks again will check the post date in daylight tomorrow. It's probably the original battery the way things are going eh!
