Hi all, I'm not sure if this would be suited to another section, but Mods feel free to move it.

I want to get a tow bar fitted to my C220 estate, and so far not had much luck in finding any sensible quotes (or maybe I'm really out of touch with prices these days)

So I'd appreciate some input on the best places to get one fitted, and what are the best type of electrics to get (I plan on towing a trailer) and what I should be expecting to pay.

Hello

I had a westfalier? OEM removable one fitted to my ML with twin electrics and two years ago this was £320 the guy did it at my house on the drive and took him 3/4 of a day.

Hi, thanks for the swift reply, was this a national firm, I've been quoted £585.00  but feel this maybe a little stong (as not even a merc dealer) and I have no problem with around the £300 mark, as that was the kind of figure I was expecting.

I may even check a dealership as the may be a little more sensible (I live in hope)

I see your in kent. . . Have you tried trident trailers 01622 662700

Fit a Bosal bar. . . top quality.

Bosal International

Click on the link and to download the fitting instructions and just click on the blue line under the spanner on the link.

As for the electrics go for the dedicated kit NOT a bypass relay type.

Hi, yes, it was trident trailers who gave me the quote of £585.00 using dedicated electrical kit, I had to double check they weren't quoting for a trailer too!!!

cheapest i can find the detchable bar for on the net is £237 not including electrics at towbarsforcars.
I expect the electric kit to be around £100 and i'd say about 2.5 hours to fit both.
So at £585 thats some profit. . . . maybe it does include the trailer.

I will find the details of who did mine, its great.

What I would do is make sure that removable also means (if like me and your bothered) that you see nothing once its removed.

Some of the witter / bosal ones are removable but leave an ugly braket when removed. Even my Electrics are out of sight, not so bad anyway on my ML but on a car I would want it hidden.

Update

Just thought I'd give an update on this, as I decided to go with Trident Trailers, even though they wern't the cheapest, but they are very local to me, and I know they have been around for a long time, and have premises (not just a mobile fitter)

The had the car in and fitted a detatchable tow bar, with propper Mercedes wiring loom, and program upload.

I had a minor rattle from the rear end a few days later (exhaust heat shield) which they adjusted for me on saturday morning.
They were very professional and courteous throughout, and I'd recommend them to anyone.
