Had a quick search on here and couldn't find anything so apologies if this has been covered before.

I am thinking of taking my Nissan off the road and using it as a dedicated track car so my question is:

Will my C180 auto be able to tow a car on a trailer?
I have found very mixed opinions on the interwebs so would like some real world feedback from you lot please:thumb:

The first thing is to look up the maximum braked trailer weight in your handbook. You can't exceed that (legally) ... from a bit of Googling it could be 1575 kg, so the prime question is what your Nissan plus trailer will weigh.

A 97 C180 struggles with four passengers up never mind a trailer and a car on top of that plus all the extra track gear.

I'm thinking your research will come up with "look for something heavier" to tow with.

Dunno what the kerbweight of a C180 is but it's lack of power that would be the main issue I think.

Can't see why not. as long as you are within limit. Should be just powerful enough. a couple of friends uses old campervan to toll their race car around.

I would definately check the max towing weight first.

Hello

Also check the nose weight of the trailer, I doubt a C180 has self leveling and the weight of the trailer, gear in boot etc, car on trailer will be a lot. My brother has a track car trailer and with the spare wheels at the A fram end and the winch its a very heavy bit of kit.

Even if it can tow it, it make not look too safe and the authorities may have reason to stop you.

Thanks for the replies:)

I thought opinions would be mixed as I imagined she was on the border line for this sort of thing.

I have the manual at home so will check on her legal weight. It was power that was my main concern and honestly hadn't considered the legality of weight.

My Nissan is a 200sx which I have stripped out and replaced a lot of parts with composite. I dont know what it weighs because I don't know what weight I can tow with the Mercedes to take it to a weighing station to find out if I can tow it or not:dk::crazy::rolleyes:

Well Ive decided not to risk it, I just wouldn't be confident.

Anyone got a 4x4 for sale?:D

Take up golf instead. Much nicer and far cheaper.
