Tracker options

Following the theft of my S211 earlier this year, I had a visit from the insurance company's engineer. We got to chatting about what could be done to prevent a recurrence and he told me not to bother with a tracker - said the thieves all go equipped with jammers, so waste of money. He also said that some insurance companies now recognise this and have stopped insisting on fitment of trackers to premium models. Positive advice was 'fit anything that slows them down'.

Hi Gordon, i mremember that theft, did you get a replacement in the end?

With regards to not bothering with a tracker I think I was lucky to get my car back after a 5-6 hour delay. Some thieves park the car up to see if it wil get tracked. Others jump on it to locate the tracker and rip it out

Tracker claims
'In 2010 the number of car thefts involving keys rose to 84% (from 74% in 2008) showing the increasing sophistication of car criminals. TRACKER offers a range of car tracking solutions that protect your vehicle in the event of a theft, and we're proud to say that over 90% of stolen vehicles fitted with a TRACKER are returned to their owner, and 80% of these are recovered within 24 hours.'

Having had my car back less than an hour after reporting it I have to say im happy. Of course, if the thieves had some compound where they took the tracker out ASAP things would have been very different. The only way to reduce the chance of this is to make sure there is no delay in being notified, whether this is an inherent part of the tracker or you set it up that way.

hmmm, all the tracker products suggest they are not susceptible to jammers, maybe thats old info.......

Dual technology and signal jamming detection to stop criminals using GPS/GSM jammers to block the tracking device

Guys, really appreciate your input. Decided on Tracker locate, with web stuff. I can define an overnight ring round it as its always in the same place. The biz mileage stuff is useful to me too, as I'm useless at recording mileage. As for fuel consumption ... A small, or is it big :o) sacrifice for such a great engine!

Btw, took gap ins just in case!

I had a tracker fitted to a Impreza years ago (condition of insurance). Car broke down and was put on the back of a low loader, the alarm was active and went off many times during the 200 mile trip home. I never hear a peep from the tracker company.

As has been said previous, if i had a car stolen, i wouldn't want it back.

Surely all of us that can afford a C63 have a personal guard standing watch over it day and night, I do;)

I've my own personal guard ... My barkaholic dog...

Hopefully he will be the early intruder warning!
