Transmission control ETC fault 8?

My C220 had some issues with the transmission seemingly stuck in one gear, not changing modes (M,C,S), paddles not working and revving high/low when accelerating/decelerating. Previously it reset when turning the key off but it happened again today and turning it off and on again didn't work.

Tonight it happened on the way home but seemed to be stuck in a low gear (40mph=4000rpm) so ended up getting the AA out, the nice bloke managed to read the code it said the following.

Anyone got any ideas what this is, I'll probably have to drop it in the garage anyway (ill let you know what it is) but wanted to see if you guys had any ideas?

There were no other signs of anything wrong, even when it was having transmission issues the dash was all normal and no errors were shown.
I thought it must have been a mechanical issues the first time it happened because of the lack of any feed back, it was only after it reset when I re-started it that I thought it could be electrical.
Then the last time it happened the nice man from the AA plug his kit in and it showed the above photo.

Had the plug changed, it seems to have reduced the number of times it is happening but it is still doing it :(

I need to look at what to change next, I'm trying to avoid taking it to the main dealer as I suspect I may end up getting charged for more than expected.

Since being done I now get P1500 and P0715 codes (from my android app and ODBII connector)

Sounds like a speed sensor fault, this is a part fitted onto the conductor plate inside the gearbox, the complete conductor plate needs to be replaced and is done without needing to remove the transmission.

Do a search on 'Conductor plate'

Thanks for the reply, I had a search but with the tools and space I have to work in it will probably be a garage job (especially as it never seems to stop raining at the moment).

Might be a few days to before I can get it done (still drives ok at the moment, occasionally going into limp mode twice in about 400 miles last week)

Not looking forward to the price for the change though. Anyone got an idea of what it will cost?

The conductor plate is £135 off ebay (where I got mine from) and along with new oil, filter and gasket + labour, I would say approx £300 in total.

Where are you located?

I found a really good 6 part series on you tube on how to fix this issue if anyone has the same issue.
It's a bit long but he goes though everything step by step with a lot of background information.
