Car
No longer a Benz...
As my 55 is tucked up in the garage whilst I have my daily driver, I'd like to put it on trickle charge... I dont think the ciggy lighter is live when the car is locked, so can I just use croc clips and bring the wire up underneath into the engine bay and connect to the battery? Do I need to remove the leads from the battery? I hope not!!

If you get a dedicated maintenance charger they normally come with a flylead that you leave attached to the battery. The lead from the charger then plugs in to this.

My SL has the battery in the boot, so I have the end of the flylead poking out of a corner of the trim panel. You can get them with a waterproof rubber cover too, for under-bonnet batteries. You can buy the leads etc. on their own if necessary:

AccuMate & OptiMate Accessories

Yup great for peace of mind - my SL is hooked up to the AccuMate all year round now.

+1

+1 for Accumate - it also has a quick release connector so you can leave the battery connections on all the time and just unplug it
