Hi all. Just a quick Question. I have a R reg C250TD. The turbo seems to whistle is this a prob that might cost or is it because my Exhaugst is blowing . I plan to get the pipes replaced soon. Also is it a DIY job to change the plugs as i have one faulty. Thx for any input.:) :)

It may be the turbo on its way out, but more likely to be a split hose or loose connection on one of the turbo hoses, best check hoses first.

The turbo will whistle as it spools up, but wont do it all the time its running only on acceleration. The Glow plugs are fairly easy to do if you are a good DIY mechanic, you need to remove the inlet manifold to access them and do them when the engine is hot. If you search the threads there are several instructions of how to do it.

I've got an S reg C250 - 114Kmiles. The turbo does whine, but only when accelerating. It's always done this, from new.

On the glow plugs - never done them myself. The car has had the glowplugs replaced twice over the course of 114K miles - one or more plugs seem to go every 50K miles or so, and i usually get all 5 replaced at the same time.

Glow plugs

Hi Chris. I did the plugs myself. straight forward really. As for the whistle. I put it down to the holes on the exhaust. I am getting it replaced next week. Will let you know if it goes away.

Thx

Stuart
