I once saw a guy with two screens connected to his puter.
One had internet explorer on and the other had his email on both running.
What do i need to do this apart from another monitor. Is there any software involved?
I seem to remember he could just drag and drop the screens between monitors.

Correct!
This ability has been around for a while.
In order to achieve this you will need a graphics card which will support 2 monitors.
There are moany on the market these days.
The software is usually built-in to the driver for the card.
Both ATI and Nvidia make very good cards that you should be able to use.
Just be aware that there are mainly 2 flavours of interfaces these days.
i.e The older AGP interface or the new PCI-Express interface (I haven't included the old PCI interface). If your machine is more than a year old then you will very likely be using an AGP interface. Most new machines now come with PCI-express interfaces.
Mac.

If you're using xp you just need another graphics card, install the drivers for it and then in Display Properties simply extend your desktop to the 2nd monitor.

There are also many dual and even triple output grphic cards available too where the above principle is still the same.

We use some dual, triple and even quad screen systems.

Basically all you need is two outputs either one on board plus one PCI (x) card or two pci(X) cards.

The drivers that come with the cards do all you will need although a word of warning about ATI - If you are using an X environment (hummingbird exceed), then avoid ATI. Go with Nvidia.

Good luck.

Yeah i've been using dual tfts on windows ME and XP systems, all you need are two graphics cards as already suggested. Find it great having tv playing on one screen while i email and surf on the other!!

dual screens rock , in work , ive got a monitor on top of another monitor. Means i can drag up the way . works really well.

Ah... the joy of multiple monitors ;)

4 here, 3 Iiyama's and one Dell/Panasonic (for windows media player :D ... cant program without music!)

Yes, it is FAB!

Not even worth it if you are using CRT's as you will use up an entire desk

Was thinking the same. Cool idea though. Just no room on my little desk at home.

I use two monitors here at home. I find that spreadsheets etc can be expanded across both of them thereby allowing me to see twice as much of the sheet as I would with just the one.
