Twin turbo kit w124 E320

Make one ?

I've built quite a few high power engines over the years and this is how i go about it - I make it sound simple but it can get pretty stressful sometimes :D

As with any car you can adapt an engine to run on turbo's relatively easy. I would personally use a couple of VF34 turbo's ( IHI ) as they spool up very quickly delivering large amounts of boost, there small so can fit in tight places and they can flow around 400 bhp ( The VF34 is found most commonly on STi Subaru models ). If they are a little over budget a couple of garret GT28's can be picked up pretty cheap.

I would remove the manifolds and have custom units built to house the turbo's. You will also need to fabricate downpipes ( about 2.5" - 3" wide ) any decent fabricator will be able to build these for you ( www.jpexhausts.co.uk ) They will need the car whilst in the process of doing this. Im not sure what the bottom ends are good for on the E320 but knowing Mercedes i think they will be able to handle sub 400 hp ? I always use forged pistons ( www.jepistons.com ) when i build my engines and Arrow rods ( www.arrowprecision.co.uk )

You will require a decent size intercooler + pipework which again will require custom fabrication. The intercooler should be placed low down and the surface area should be exposed to cold air. You will also need to replace the injectors and fuel pump. I would recommend the Bosch 440 green tops with a Walbro 255 pump.

I would personally run the set up with a DTA engine management system ( piggybacking the standard Merc ECU ) and get the car mapped by Ric Wood of Manchester. He will set the car up and fit all the required extra's ( boost controller etc )

Matt

So on this custom build what would the damage be in financial terms ??

Realistically between £5k - £6k with mapping

There will be lots of other items you will need to carry out the conversion but if you budget for the above you should have enough left over to pay your first couple of speeding fines

You thought of supercharging it ?

Wish I could afford that one sounds inspiring, was looking for one of the Hughes of Beaconsfield kits that needs a good home! By the way do they ( Hughes) have any left when I rang the guy I spoke to did not seem to have any idea.

Because he must have been a little boy 15 yrs ago ;)

a member purchased all the remaining kits and spares from huges about 12 months ago.

he has put them in his alladins cave, it must be really cool in there! all kinds of exotic mercs in airconditioned bubbles, like a horror film, with all kinds of spares sprinkled around, including a 124 widebody kit that has never been fitted...

if you wanna turbo a 103 or 104 engine, buy a manifols from turbo bandit and get a turbo from the scrapp yard, off a volvo, along with the intercooler bla bla bla. strap it all on and off you go. keep below 10 psi and the engine should hold together quite well.

i have a turbo technics 103 injector holder and air pipe for sale. pms are welcome

Ive got a complete M104 3.2 E320 twin turbo kit. I was keeping onto it to use with my E36 one day, but that car is in the process of being sold.

I have the complete kit, plus a stripped E320 engine (head is still complete, 82k).

£2000 for the kit, £500 for the engine.

The idea was to rebuild the engine (with lower compression), and drop the engine in. Which would have ment I can still use the car.
