Two bucket wash

Its all about the grate at the bottom of the bucket, by rubbing the mitt agains the grate it loosens the grit reducing the chances of swirl marks. Nothing to do with the water. Anyway after the car has been snow foamed and rinsed the amount of dirt left upon the surface should be much reduced. A two bucket wash by itself isn't much use on a dirty car.

Huh? You are supposed to reach down into the very bottom of the bucket and rub the mitt against the grate...are you sure?

Whilst i use a 2 bucket method, I never realised you are supposed to rub the mitt against the Grate in the bottom of the bucket? i thought it was so if you did leave the mitt in the bucket it didn't sink down into the grit, or obvious dipping the mitt into the bucket stops it touching the bottom.

Everyday is a School day lol

rubbish, the grit guards stop the settlement coming back up

I started '2 bucketing' about 6 months ago and its surprising how much crap is left at the bottom of the rinse bucket....

Some of us use it and swear by it. Others do use it and are happy. Each to their own.

Personally, I use 2 bucket but have not yet transitioned to snow-foam. Sure that snow-foam will reap additional benefits.

I generally try something and make up my own mind eg listened to the wise owls and actually ceraminc'd (trade only pack ;) ) only one side, the bonnet and tailgate. The results are outstanding over the last 4 months.

FYI - noticed that Halfrauds currently have Meg's bucket and grit guards in at approx £15 ie £30ish for 2 buckets and both guards.

im gonna treat myself tomorrow to a new wash mitt and shampoo(for the car not for me). question is...do i go for the lambswool one?

Wash pads rather than wash mitts are the current way of thinking. Using a pad puts twice the amount of material between you and the car body allowing grit to sink deeper and reduce the risk of scratching the clearcoat. The Microfiber Madness Incredipad comprises of inch-long microfibre strands. The Dooka Osha wash pad is one of the best lambswool pads around but will cost you around £25. Being a natural material is does require more careful maintenance if the longest lifespan is to be achieved.

It's not actually rubbish, it's designed for both!

You have your rinse bucket, dip your mitt into the bucket and gently rub it against the grate of the guard. This is designed to loosen dirt from the mitt, allowing it to sink below the grit guard. You then squeeze the water out of the mitt before dipping in the wash bucket.

Realistically the hundreds of holes in a grit guard won't prevent the dirt from rising through it if someone is vigorous enough with swirling the water around the bucket. But, it will prevent someone from dipping the wash mitt far enough into the water to pick up any grit that has sunk to the bottom.

Ultimately if all your doing is dipping the mitt into a bucket or water and squeezing it out, you could do away with the grit guard and just ensure you don't use the last 3-4" of water at the bottom. The guard is useful for more than just that.

I just wash like any other normal person would but I deliberately avoid parking under those special lights that show up all the little swirls in the paint - crafty eh?

Never even heard of the two bucket method. Will be implemented from now on tho.
