hi all, well im ready to prize the valve cover off (tomorrows job now) and i have noticed this before but maybe they were testing somthing?, but look at the two white
wires connected to the righthand cam sensor/adjuster wiring.
anyway ill tidy it up upon reassembly.
just want to check condition of the sprockets and check to see if the timing marks align.
thinking that will tell me if the chain has stretched?
A question please... i might look at replacing the chain tensioner as it seems to rattle on a warm start, there is a cap to prize out and you put a hole in it to get it out,, can you buy them or do they come with the chain tensioner?
Love playing with engines and i must admit the m271 (maybe just mercedes) seems to be well built and easy to work on.

That wiring definitely needs sorted out.

As for the tensioner you do get the cap separate or it does come with some aftermarket Febi units

On the M271 engine, the camshaft position sensors can leak, and the oil can travel up the wiring loom and get into the ECU.

I am guessing that what happened here is that the seal leaked, and the plug/connector was full of oil, and so it was replaced with a new connector by cutting the wire.

BTW, MB sell a short extension wire that prevents the oil from getting into the main loom.
