Hi,
I need to replace all four tyres on my CLC180 asap, currently it has Conti Sportcontact 3s.
I had Contis on my previous car and found that they wore out kinda quickly, so I'm reluctant to go for them again.
Having searched online a bit I came up with the following options (prices are Front / Rear):

Front: 225/40 zr18 92Y
Rear: 245/35 zr18 92Y
Falken FK453 £100 / £150
Bridgestone Potenza S001 £115 / £155
Conti Sportcontact 5 £123 / £176
Michelin Pilot Sport 2 £133 / £175
Any opinions on these or other options would be really appreciated, especially if any of these is a bad choice.
Thanks,
Michael

Given the similar price of all of them my choice would be the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 for the following reasons

Falken: Good tyres but not at that money it's too expensive for them
Bridgestone Potenza: Compound too hard giving good life but poor wet performance
Continental: great performance too soft giving short life and too noisy for me`

Michelin: Best performer of the bunch with good all round characteristics striking the balance of performance Vs longevity

All IMHO of course

I Got 30k out of my conti sport 3 last time round, a little less on the rears. I didnt think that was too bad?

Thats good never had a set go past 17,000 on either MB, Volvo or Audi :fail
I know I looked Through my old receipts and found the invoice didnt have the mileage on it but did have the date, so I worked it out roughly using other invoices of work done that did have the mileage.

The rears did about 20k+ off the top of my head. now I've got Conti Sport 5s on.

Just looked at the rears, about half way through after 11-13k

Michelin's compound is harder than Bridgestone's.

The Bridge. won't provide as much comfort as the other's on your list due to its sidewalls, especially compared to Michelin's butter soft walls, two different kind of tyres really, the S001 will provide more grip and feedback but with slightly more noise.

From your list, for me I'd pick, its difficult because deep down none of them, I don't like soft sidewall tyre's, to many issues I don't like so I'd opt for the Bridgestone, as said not enough saving to pick the Falken's.

Do consider Goodyear's Eagle F1 at approx. £115/175 fitted..:thumb:

I'd pay extra not to have Mich. fitted on my car..:D

I know the Mich is harder than Bridge we supply both compounds, but Bridge rides harder on vehicles, depending on the tyre and construction.

I agree Goodyear eagle F1 a great tyre worth a shot

Whats up with Mich or is it a French thing :-)

No not a French thing, weak sidewall's (and Mich have the weakest, or do Toyo) whilst providing a cushioning ride they are more likely to become mishapped during it's life, Mich are from new never in balance compared to others, at present some Dunlop's and Yoko's are having no need for any weight's to be fitted. They are more likely to crack because of the harder compound (better than they used to be) together with not providing feed back like a softer compound.

For me i'm just not keen on feeling the sidewalls flex whilst driving along, very off putting together with the way they just let go without warning, other than that they are great at what they are sold as, comfort tyre's, but even with cutting there price's they are still struggling for sales which tells the stroy. .

I am thinking of giving these a go next any thoughts? Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta

Tony.

Thanks for all your input.
Are the Falkens getting a bit above their station? I remember getting some a couple of years ago when they seemed to have a good rep and a low-ish price.
Will have a look at the Goodyears.
Also need to get prices from my local fitters.

Few years go I've had Vreds on a different car, great tyre! I would be gone for another set of Vreds, but they do a size that's recommended for my car.

Went with Michelins and am very happy!
