tyre size recommendations please

Hi being new to merc i am not sure about tyre sizes , or wether i should have bigger tyres on the rear than front .
Car is a 1999 230 clk sport , i have just ordered new alloys there are
18 inch
offset 35
8.5j
66.6 centre bore
i dont want to ruin the cars handling and ride , so 18`s are as big as i want to go , but what size tyres should i fit to car with these wheels 40 or 45 profile 225 front 235 or 245 rear ?
