Hi all,

I have a 2012 e class with 245 45 17 tyres can I put 225 45 17 tyres on without changing the alloy wheel

Yes, so long as you change all 4 tyres.

Your tyres will now have a smaller diameter by 18mm.
 
Not recommended though!

Why do you want to do that? Winter tyre change?

In case you were unaware: the "45" figure is known as the aspect ratio and is the height of the side wall expressed as a percentage of the tyre width. For your tyre this equal 110.25mm, your proposed tyre would have a side wall height of 101.25mm so you would have a smaller rolling radius.

It is generally accepted that you should mantian the rolling radius to within +/- 3mm as more extreme changes can affect your speedometer accuracy and may also alter the effectiveness of traction control, ABS and stability control systems.:thumb:
