Any ideas what's caused this wear?

Excessive camber? Possibly from lowering suspension?

scarey tyre............... nice to see you check them....

Worn Ball Joint?
A previous car of mine had both front tyres like that in less than 5000 miles.

Is it on one tyre only?

I take it that's from an ML?

If so they do seem to wear tyres more on the inner edge, but that looks extreme.

I noticed a slight amount of increased wear on all wheels on the last set of tyres, so I had a full MB alignment done (cheap at £250 :gulp: ) and afterwards they said it was bob on anyway (money well spent then  ). I've noticed a slight wear since too.

Yep, from the M class, it is extreme, other tyre not so bad but is worn.

Low tyre pressures, fast driving, poor wheel alignment or a combination of the 3

It's not low pressures or fast driving (in an M class? :p) so that leaves alignment. The car is 30 months old and these are the second set of wheels. The mileage is low, about 22k iirc.

I would go for worn ball joints also. If you let go the wheel, does the car wander or stay straight?

Looks like your tyre is rubbing against somthing, possibly the vents in the wheel-arches...

But I don't think that would explain the patch that's right through to the canvas......

Stays straight....
