I would like to know why when you order UHI (Universal Handy Interface) you have Bluetooth in the Comand. For what is the Bluetooth feature in the Comand?
Regards

There isn’t any Bluetooth in COMAND. The Bluetooth is actually located in the telephone if you buy the Fixed Mercedes-Benz handset with WAP capability (Option code 381), and it’s not very useful since the Bluetooth is only used to connect the handset with the phone. You can use the handset up to 10 meters from the car. The only other thing I have found out, is that you can dial from you HP Ipaq’s contact list via Bluetooth. All other Bluetooth Profiles are missing.

I have factory installed UHI, I confirm you I have Bluetooth. If I enter in SERV menu, I have Bluetooth option. I have also WAP option and it works perfect via my Nokia 6310i. My question is if someone here have tested a bluetooth headset with the comand.
Best Regards

I still think I'm correct when I say that the COMAND doesn't have any Bluetooth. Yes, you can operate the phones Bluetooth stack via COMAND, but that doesn't mean that the COMAND has Bluetooth. Why don't you try to connect a BT device (headset, PDA, etc), and let us know the result. As soon as you press the BT button, it should start searching for BT devices.

Finally I connected a BT headset device, the Comand or UHI (up to you) recognizes the BT device, but the only one thing you can do is Pick up and hang on the phone. You can´t alternate the call between headset or speakers, also you can´t redial with the BT headset.
I would like to know what other kind of BT divices may I connect and what they do.

I have bluetooth in '04 SL500, I am awaiting a UHI kit for my phone, even without a phone installed it discovers other bluetooth devices (pc, phone) but doesn't seem to allow you to do anything when they are discovered and paired, anybody else got this to work in anyway?

I'm with you. I had it connected to my phone via Bluetooth, didn't seem to do anything at all. Weird.

OK, just been outside to my car - I've got two phones - 6310i permanantly in the UHI kit, and a 6230 for mobile (I just divert calls to the car to keep Plod happy)

I've just searched for new BT devices with my 6230, and it has found:

1) UHI-SN3632
2) Nokia 6310i

So can anyone decifer what the UHI bit means, and if I can use it - how?

I personally think MB are crazy not to offer bluetooth for their cars ... i recon it would put a lot of people off the car when they can only really get a 6310i realistically

My car is not pre-wired for mobile phone and I would like to have a bluetooth kit for my nokia 6600, and I'm thinking buying the nokia car kit ck-7w, but my questions are:

1-Its better to pre-wire the car first to have MB parts instead of nokia ones like micro, antenna,etc... ? (parts # ?)

2-does anyone know if it will work with my steering wheel controls?

3-I would like to know if there is an Bluetooth UHI (Universal Handy Interface) for mercedes to work with nokia 6600?

I have a 2003 c220cdi sport coupe

thanks for the help

Yes,there is Bluetooth in COMAND.The only problem is Mercedes want to screw you for more money and that's why the firmware will not allow to connect your phone directly. You have to buy another gadget for about 400 hundered bucks (here in Europe) to connect your phone. The Bluetooth in COMAND let you only WAP.
AUDI for example is not that cheep and you can use phone without any problem directly.I compared MB CLS and Audi Q7 'cause that's what I own.

Hi Benet2,

When you bought your MB, I am guessing that there was no charge made for the Bluetooth system embedded within Comand. There certainly wasn't any "Bluetooth" charge when I bought mine. MB made no claims that Comand supported Bluetooth and when the car arrived, the Comand system was as described (i.e. no Bluetooth, except a soft button on a menu that did nothing because I hadn't specified the bluetooth personal handset).

Now that MB are selling a Bluetooth module for Bluetooth mobile phones, they are charging for it - as you said, about $400. Seems a pretty reasonable stance to me.

Where is the rip-off?

Well,I would not be so pissed if the Mercedes charged me for the bluetooth even more when the working BT was part of the COMAND.
When I was ordering the CLS there was not this option.NOT because it was any problem for MB since the BT was already there but because the they wanted to charge more money latter. Now I have the stupid interface and anytime I get to the car I have problem to connect.Even though BT is simple and cheap technology for a long time now I would gladly pay more if it works. Finally I found a guy in Germany who will alternate the firmware so I will not need the crazy head-phone interface any more.I know you are MB funs.Me too.But this drives me nuts.Buy the not working piece of shit head-phone interface and then you will understand why I feel cheated especially when I reallize the perfectly working BT is already there and connects with my phone with no problem.
Too bad I can not use it for phonecalls.

The Bluetooth menu inside the COMAND is for a Personal Headset for call privacy.

It is the least well understood feature of the car.

That's not true at all. It is a matter of making the system operable with the function it was intended to have.

The headset profile is adequate for the amount of space inside the COMAND firmware. To make it work with a phone would require an additional 5 profiles in order to accept even one phone.

That is why the phone version is an add-on.

SAP is so new that it didnt even exist when the COMAND was designed.

Sorry,Miro

I think you are wrong. My bluetooth works fine so it means the COMAND and my phone is actually connected. The Bluetooth transfers data and does not give a monkey butt if it is voice or letters. It is just data.Wake up,the Bluetooth is around for years now.It is not a big deal to put it in any device.Any god-damned cheap phone has it so please do not tell me anything about some profiles and space. It is ridiculous. The Bluetooth is in my CLS and the only problem is the firmware not allowing the calls. The reason is as I said MB want more your money for the lousy working interface.
Why don´t you just accept the MB really screwed this up.
I would'n be bitching around even if they charged me even more in case
the BT works as it should.

OK.Now you can kill me for not kissing Mercedes ass.

Bluetooth works on profiles. The profile determines the action of bluetooth and how that bandwidth is to be used.

Bluetooth is a type of signal. A function is a type of profile.

I had endless debates with poorly informed clients over Appletalk, Localtalk and Ethertalk. Now it seems that this problem has been reborn in bluetooth.

The devices pair in Bluetooth. One is master and one is slave (simple version) and the master is always the device which is remote - like headset. The slave validates the code password and then the signal opens to communicate.

Once the signal is open the operating system in each device loads the matching profiles for a specific function. If one device does not have a profile then it does nothing.

For a phone to be used you must have HANDSET profile, SAP profile, SERIAL profile all running.

People like ARGOS who make a low end BT interface simply have HANDSET profile which picks up and hangs up.

This notion that Bluetooth doesnt care and that it is all the same ..... highly overstated. IT is simply not the case.

And by the way Miro the personal headsed is not connected via Bluetooth. It is wire connected.
If the personal headset would work via Bluetooth you would never see my name here.Let me explain again something. The MB version in question here will not let you make calls directly. You have to buy extra gadget (the headset interface),connect the gadget to the connector (wire,no BT) and then if you are lucky you may make calls.Your phone connects over the BT to the gadget (headset) and from there the call goes via the wires to COMAND and thus to car speakers and vice versa from car microphone to COMAND then to the gadget (the headset interface) and from there over the Bluetooth to your phone.
That's why it is so unreliable.
Hey,I love my Mercedes as you do but this bothers me.
