Just wondering if any of the collective have ever owned (or indeed driven properly) one of these. I have always loved the le mans styling and I cant help but think 550 bhp and similar torque would make a super dooper weekend machine. However the thought of selling one on again horrifies me, hence, I suppose, the question - is it worth it?

Buy a 911 GT3.

The Ultima owners I know spend all their time fixing and very little time driving. Not to mention that it is so unpractical it beggars belief.

But to own the car that TG allegedly wouldn't feature because it would show up all the wildly expensive supercars? And for a fraction of the price?

I understand Ultima's demo GTR a few years ago was the 0 to 100mph back to 0 world record holder, possibly still is, and not a stripped out racer, but complete with aircon etc.

Impractical maybe, but no less so than say a Veyron?

Thing is a 911 as a third car is just a bit sensible shoes. An ultima or catherham or westfield or dax rush with a cosworth turbo might just be a bit more fun....

you have obv not experienced either. A Veyron is totally pratical compared with the kit car.

There is a bit sensible... which the 911 is... but the Ultima is crazy - good but crazy.

Buy a low milage Dodge Viper, half the cost of an ultima, but a real car

When your hobby car is a Morganesque 3 wheeler you built yourself, anything is practical, whatever your definition of practical is.

BUT with its sequential gearbox, 9500rpm redline, drive to the single rear wheel, IT'S FUN, so who needs practical, we have a Skoda for that..............

Buy something old and depreciation-proof. 930 turbo, Lotus Carlton, Alpine A110, Lancia Delta Integrale, Dialynx Quattro, etc
