Unable to select gear.....

On a few occasions when starting my car, I have been unable to select D, or R. Moving the gear selector had no effect and this was only resolved by restarting the engine.
The first time i didn't think too much about it, but it has done this a few more times recently.

Is this just a glitch or a sign of something to come?

I would have this checked for a gear selector module about to give up.
You can guarantee it will happen at the most improper moment if its left.

Sorry I don't know, but once diagnosed by your indy? you'll have a better idea.
It may not even be what I suggested.

Checked the fluid level? We had a slight leak that even Mercedes said was not significant, slight stone damage to the cooler, and so rather forgot about it. It was quite a surprise when it wouldn't change gear. New cooler required.
