Hey Guys,
I have noticed that in the SL the insulation has come away from the underneath of the bonnet, does anyone know what i can use to stick it back on with? i have been advised to use carpet spray, double sided tape but i cant see either lasting very long.
The thing is so brittle as well as soon as you touch it, it crumbles away in your fingers.....

thanks

Hellowie Raj,, these things fall to bits and have to be replaced from time to time, you are wasting your time using sprays etc as its all virtually dust.

They cost around £100 from MB, they do come up on Fleabay, you could buy some other sound deadening stuff from a firm near you, I cant think of the name

Hi Malc, its only a bit in the corner, i dont think its worth stripping the whole thing out for around 6" of it in one corner...

OK get some spray impact adhesive spray it onto the the inside of the loose bit and leave it for an hour, then spray both the bonnet and the felt, wait 5 mins and push up, preferbaly using a piece of cardboard so the you do not compress just your finger marks.

This will work for a time and you may have to do it again later

does anyone know what is used initially for then to stick it on?

hi mine came away in a corner after i washed the engine. All i did was clean the painted surface with white sprit to remove any grease or contamination and used heavy duty carpet spray adhesive and held it in place with some masking tape, once dry and i drove it for a few days i just carfully removed the tape and not had a problem with it in over 2 years!

As mercman its the same stuff, what you have got to do by spraying it first is to try and bond it together, otherwise just dust
