Guys, I jump in and out of this forum due to a lot of travelling. Friday pm today is quiet, and i was going through some old posts and stuff and found a few responses to my first post announcing the AMG arrival, requesting a bit more info. 5mths down i thought its time for a update.
So i thought, id fill my coffee cup up and let you know hows its going.
I have been so pleased that i bought this car. Its big, 4 seats a coupe, holds my golf clubs, in many ways it just perfect. It really is a head turner, the amount of people who stop me at petrol stations to understand more, take look inside etc is huge. They want to hear it start up, and watch you pull away with the thumbs up. It is amazing how many people love mercs and AMG, and many are very knowledgeable. The only challenge is explaining away the 63 moniker and that its a 5.5, most look at me saying that doesnt make sense - agreed!!
In my original post, i mentioned the difference in power deliver from the M5, and that it just didnt feel the AMG had the same oomph due to the V8 v V10. Power delivery is v different, but i have really got used to the AMG now, especially in sport+ when it just keeps on giving/going. It really is outstanding performance for a big car. And the sound!!!!!!!
The handling is brilliant, but varies massively based upon which setting you have it on. In normal, its very light and responsive, in S+, it really hunkers down the suspension, and the steering tightens up, and its a delight to drive fast.
Inside, it feels like a much smaller car, its very compact, and clean. The finish is beautiful and is so much better than BMW. the piano lacquer finish is lovely, and the AMG instrument cluster is very crisp and clear - all the technology is easy to use when you understand it. Love the seats, very comfortable and hold you tight into the seat, and great for cornering.
Downside - i have a irritating noise coming from the steering so it needs to go to merc to check. Constantly spins when you pull away. Cant boot it in the wet, thats it
To summarise, this is an amazing car, really well built, looks lovely, goes like stink, turns heads, sounds great and is a Merc. It really suits my lifestyle, everyday, i consider myself very lucky to be able to own and experience such a wonderful car.
