Hi, I`m planning to upgrade the sound in my 2003 ML. A total makeover so to say, I have the Audio 10 cd, none bose, and no cd changer. I want to add an amp, and sub. I like the look of the interior and do not want any visible changes. Are the factory installed speakers good enough? What do you recommend if I want to replace the complete system? I hope to use the existing wiring. Iphone 5 integration is important.

I wasn't over impressed with the standard set up in ours -it was the same as yours. I was expecting to have to replace speakers but never did - reason being that the sound was transformed after I fitted a Becker Mexico head unit.

Then a few years ago I added an aux-in cable and poked it through to the DIN-slot cubby beneath the head unit.

Bose sound system speakers

I got hold of all the speakers from a Bose sound system, they made a significant difference. Now I`m looking for an amp to run the Bose sub woofer. I got the speakers almost for free, so I thought it was worth a try, It really was! even without the sub connected the sound was great. And best of all it was plug and play with the old wiring system.

How did you get the speaker for almost free? Breakers?

I do no business with criminals!

Not hard at all, You have to take off the door panels you will need a tool for the spikes as the are easily broken. Lots of treads in the forum describing how to remove them.

Buy a 5 channel amp, one that will drive your new speakers and the 5th channel can drive the sub.

They are 2ohm speakers from memory so may put too much strain on your head unit when used for long periods, they are designed for the amp.

Thank you for a short english lesson ;) , and some good advice.:thumb:

Any of the small class D amps will work well.
I would look at the Alpine of Pioneers for this job.
Under £200 will be fine.

I am just curious because I wouldn't mind doing the upgrade to my ML163.

I think when you asked if he got the speakers from a breaker he thought you meant a thief.

I assumed the same....I thought on forums a breaker automatically implies someone who dismantles car parts and sells them on. I will have to rethink my words next time.

In the UK, a breaker is the name that the Americans would call ... A Vehicle Dismantler.
All totally legally above board

Misunderstanding

Sorry Dokalj, I really thought you ment a thief, I`m Norwegian and my english vocabulary isn`t that wide.:o I bought the whole interior from an ML 400, and then got a good price on the speaker system as well. I will follow the advice on this forum and add a 5 channel amp. Just bought it and will try to fit it in the next days. Looking forward to experience the sound.

Any update on the amp??

Is it in yet??

Hi sorry to but in on this one!! I have an Audio 10 with CD changer will I have an amp in my C32?

Maybe.

It is located under the trim in the boot if you have.

Do you have Bose?
