URGENTLY REQUIRED PLEASE 300te 4-Matic Tandem PSU and Hudraulic Pump refurb kit.

I shall do both (gosh I made a decision) replacement pump and new hose & clips. That way we cover off a bases and avid false economy for the distant future (its a 124 what could wrong)

Update

Bought some high grade vac non collapsible rubberised fuel line 8mm & new clips.

Removed old line.

Cleanup tank and filter and pipe unions on tandem pump.

Gave a gentle wire brush and clean to tandem pump.

All back together with 2 litres of new ‘correct’ fluid.

No signs of weeping or leaking. Gave the car a good 45 mile run then tried again with white tissue. Still no seepage.

Early days. But a better result than I may have expected. Fingers crossed.

So today. Armed only with my wallet and a shaky belief in what I was trying to fix -4WD JUDDERING in tight full lock low speed tarmac conditions. This is how this entire sorry pump saga started, way back in time. I headed off to Protyre in Sittingbourne.

Pump is still dry. So I am now reasonably confident in my ‘home made’ low pressure pump hose fix.

Then off with the old Pirelli rubber and on with 4 brand new Dunlop 195 65 15’s

Yes I know. This is my hover car. But who needs pics of a tyre?

Well the 4WD judder is all but gone!!! Amazing. The ride is transformed back to magic carpet levels.

I have a grin like a grinning thing that can’t stop grinning.

What a transformation.

So between tyres and leaking pump pressure we may have fixed a problem on my 31 year old beauty. Giving her back that legendary ride quality. But most importantly retaining her as a fully working factory spec 300te 4-Matic. There are so few left now on the road, it really is a pleasure to drive her in 4WD.

My thanks as always to all on here who offered help to me and the car. Especially to the wonderful GROBER - Graeme - who just never gives up with his help and kindness.

Fingers crossed folks.

Hope this does fix the problem Bruce. Thank you for your kind words. Hopefully we all know a bit more about W124 dual hydraulic pumps now. I certainly do! ;)

Well I am fed up,Bruce I got the popcorn in a few beers and you go and fix it in one, where is the limping home on half a engine, knowing all the AA men by their first names and the frantic search for a part that it seems nobody has in stock, you are getting too good at fixing things,I would advise the guys who have been posting to stop it,they are giving too much help, this whole saga should be in double figure pages and look it is wrapped up in 3.

Brian

Early days yet. You know with cars and me this will undoubtably demand an extension, several more episodes and a remake.

But I have to say it’s a hugely noticeable difference to the driving of the car. I need some luck of late and will take anything that’s going (good of course). Great to hear from the wonderful Simon (Carat 3.6). I miss his posts.
