USB/SD Card To COMAND 2

My car is a year 2000 E320 CDI 210 estate. I've sent my COMAND 2 to Maple Audio in Bath so they can repair the music CD laser reading error.

They don't add any external multiplayer connections. I'd considered an external C D multiplayer with traditional connection but there's not much room in the car for an external CD multiplayer so, I'm wondering if I can get myself a connection to play from, ideally an external S D card or otherwise, an external USB stick.

Can anyone suggest the best device on the market and where I can purchase it from?

Maybe the COMAND unit won't accept that kind of external connection. I've read about devices that can "trick the COMAND 2 unit into believing it is playing from an external C D multiplayer" but this might be pie in the sky.

Also, it may be that the COMAND 2 unit isn't compatible with anything other than an external C D multiplayer.

It might also be that my COMAND unit is the 2.5 but I reckon it is the 2 because it is identical with the image on Maple Audio's website.

I wanted to use the COMAND repair service often mention and shown on this club's site but, after I contacted them, they redirected me to Maple Audio.

Any help would be appreciated

I'm looking for the same kind of solution with my Comand system. My CD changer has stopped reading discs and this appears to me a common problem.

You can pick up double din units from eBay with SD slots / USB which may be an option

If this is the original COMAND unit that came with the car in 2000 then it is unlikely to be NTG2.5. Additionally, NTG2.5 has an SD slot on top of the CD/DVD slot.

This looks like it will get you most of the way there
Connects 2 Car Audio Systems, Car Stereo, Car Radio DAB Stereos, Car interface adapters and accessories > ProductInformation

You will still need to source an MP3 player that can take data off your sd card etc and turn it into real music. But at least you will be able to plug in an iPod or something similar.

PS Might be the wrong Comand, so be careful! This page says that Comand 2 does have an aux input already but it also says that there are several versions of Comand 2.

Probably worth contacting connects2 directly as they offer all kinds of other connection options.

Comand 2.0 (the CD based navigation system) does have AUX input

The predecessor, which is Comand 2.5 and appeared in the W220 S and W215 CL before Model Year 2003 does not have AUX input (it has a tape drive)

Note, the USA COMAND systems are different.

I've found the 3.5 mm aux input in the glovebox.

I'm going to get something that holds a 16 G micro S D card (mobile phone) and, using an adaptor, download music from the internet. I can take the micro S D card out of the adaptor, put it back in a mobile phone, plug the headphone jack into the aux socket in the glovebox, sort out a direct power supply and leave it in the glovebox in the hope an aux channel will appear on the COMAND screen and I'm able to play whatever is on the S D card.

Basically, I need a media reader for either an S D card or a USB stick and some way of getting power from the car's battery to run it. The aux bit isn't a problem if it triggers an aux channel on the COMAND 2.

All totally separate from my own mobile phone which is packed away when I'm driving.
