Using an Automatic Car wash...

The badge will be fine. I worried about that a bit. Some car washes don't move it and some just knock it out of kilter a bit. The latter is the best scenario as you can get out of your car and proudly straighten the star again ;)

The ornament is pretty robust, I'm sure it'll be fine unless one of the bristles or whatever catch on it, rip the star off and then beat it repeatedly against your car's bodywork until someone shuts the carwash off.

Naturally that's a worst case scenario ;)

Perfectly welcome! I've not said anything that isn't true! Read what I quoted earlier!

I have been known to frequent the jetwash at the local shell garage from time to time, mainly in winter when I can't be bothered to do the whole hosepipe/bucket/sponge thing in the freezing cold.

My only tip where pressure washers are concerned is to avoid spraying the floor near the car as it will basically blast any sand or grit at the paintwork.

I feel quite smug.........

Car's just back from it's "C" service @ 23k miles (8 months old) and the dealer says that it's nice to see that someone still hand washes the car.......

Except it goes down to the local car wash every week! Guess it's the nanotech paint. I get my 10-year old to clean the wheels.

Visiting the carwash will remain the case until handwashing becomes more interesting than mowing the lawn (I used to wash the previous car by hand while wifey mowed, now I have a ride-on......) - I have better and more productive things to do with my time, as I suspect Geoff does too.

Oh - and the badge is fine.

(Now duck behind desk in anticipation of replies.....)

only pulling your leg Shude ;)

your post just made me giggle thats all!!! :D

U got it easy mate... (even though I would not dream of putting my car (s) through car wash or risk anyonr else wash them - I even hand wash the Sprinter myself) I still end up having to do the garden and vacum the house... :o

All things considered, I reckon I could achieve better results than an automatic car wash would in less time by washing with a bucket and sponge! :)

No, I am serious!

It would probably take about five minutes to drive to a garage with a car wash, a couple of minutes to park up and pay for a token or whatever, a few minutes on average to wait for whoever is using it to finish and then a few minutes for your car to drive in and have it's 'wash'.
Add another five minutes to return home from said garage (or back to wherever else you were before) and I would already be sitting back indoors!

Even if you base the comparision on the fact that you may already be at a petrol station anyway, you could probably wash most vehicles (except perhaps 4x4s or people carriers) better in about five minutes anyway!

Ok, I admit that I am biased as I hate car washes with a passion, but I can't see how even the most busiest people can't find five or ten minutes for a very quick once over with a bucket of soapy water and a rinse once in a while.
And as Mr E pointed out, a mass of swirling brushes will not clean you wheels effectively either.

And as most people have said, if you are allergic to soapy water - why not get your car hand washed next time you stop in a car park or pass one of these express hand wash places. Surely better value, better job and much less risky (imagine as Shude said if your bonnet star ripped of or even started getting whacked against the bonnet).

Don't mean to sound so disapproving, but why treat a brand new car so badly - I wouldn't do that to anything of mine, whether I owned it or not. :(

Oh, and welcome to the forums. :)

Cheers,

Will
