Hi all,

I'm using the 3.5 jack / aux socket in the glovebox of my CLK with NTG2 to plug in my Sony Walkman (MP3). It works fine but the car's stereo controls don't change up and down the tracks which I guess is just normal. I have noticed aux harnesses that look like they have connection for USB sticks. What I was hoping to find out was if I was to get one of these leads and plug in a USB stick full of songs will I be able to flick up and down tracks with the car's stereo or is this not the case? Hope that makes sense :)

Thanks in advance :)

Can't help with an answer but update when you find out please. I was wondering the same thing some time ago.
I have a feeling the Aux socket only provides the power and a USB stick would just play the tracks in the order they are recorded.
Someone will know;)

The AUX socket only provides an audio input. No power, just a stereo input.
The trouble is that NTG2 was designed around 2001.

If you have COMAND (colour satnav) then you can add a device that pretends to be a CD changer and allows you to see track names etc (and can control iPod nicely). You can't with an Audio-20 because it doesn't display track names from a CD-changer so you get no info.

Ask alfie (see www.comand.co.uk) for costs, but the devices are expensive as they go on the fibre optic audio network.

Cheers

Richard

This is my sat/nav / command unit. It has a CD changer currently installed and that does show track names etc. Is this one capable to add a device?

Thanks.

In my 08 Eclass I had a rectangular plug socket. I had to buy the leads from MB for £70. Plugged my antique iPod and the song titles etc show in the screen. Unfortunately the 3.5 jack is audio only.

estate-agent - thats a NTG2, and it has the AUX facility. You either have a 3.5mm aux socket in the glovebox, or a connector to add a lead in the footwell wiring duct, or nothing and you have to wire to the back of the COMAND.
Many people miss the socket so have a good look in the glovebox, on the side near the door first

Cheers

I'm using the jack in the glovebox already with my Sony Walkman MP3 player but it only plays back, the command doesn't change tracks, show song title etc (I have to change tracks with the Walkman buttons itself which is a pain really). I was just hoping that maybe a normal USB stick on a harness (jack to USB) might work with the NTG2's track buttons etc. I'm guessing it is purely going to be playback only. :(

I have the same NGT2 COMAND unit. Sorry but hooking up a USB stick to the jack will not work at all. You've already got as good as you're gonna get unless you spend a lot of money.
