Also i need a new AC Compressor as its leaking from there any suggestions where i can find one for less than mercedes quote of £811 inc VAT.

It is chain driven mate, so no need to do anything. Are you sure that it is not just a pipe seal that connects to the AC compressor ?

It will most likely be the green coloured rubber seals where the pipe joins the compressor.. very few of these leak internally.

thanks for the info guys i will go out now and try around the seal on the pipe, could save me a bomb.. would that just mean i need a new seal and re gas then?? sorry if i sound dumb but where it comes to things like this i dont have a clue, im taking the car to mercare on monday and talking to them about it as the gas escapes when the compressor kicks in...

justin thanks for the info on the cam pulley(chain) means i can relax a little more now about the engine going wrong. im having one of those days where i worry lots.

Will need the system de-gased, replace the pipe o rings. Vac the system and refill with gas and a dye with the small amount of oil.
Re-check operation and check for a leak with a ultra-violet light :thumb:

ok where is the compressor located.. clearly where i thought it was it isnt.. do i need to remove bumper and headlight etc??

Passenger side of the engine at the bottom mate, follow the big silver AC pipe down to it :thumb:

thanks Justin, found it tho cant hear anything from it been trying to hear it kick in but nothings happening. am in the process now of getting the car booked into mercare of plymouth for them to diagnose the problem if its the compressor its gonna be about £500 including labour to replace but would rather check first.

well thats the car booked into mercare for next week to see what the actual problem is. watch this space for an update :)

The compressor won't operate if there is insufficient gas in the system - a pressure switch prevents the clutch from engaging in the absence of gas pressure in the system - this prevents damage to the compressor which would result if it was run dry .

fingers crossed its a leaking seal then :)
