Has anyone done this when buying a used MB? I ask as i have tried it previously with different marques and have got various grunts from the dealers! I would hope theat MB centralise their service details on computer, but hopefully someone can tell me how they have done it. Purpose would be to check its not dodgy and to verify the mileage. Thanks

Until last year this wasnt possible. MB did not have a centralised database. This has now changed, call MB UK on 01908 245 000 and ask for customer service.
They wont tell you much, due to data protection, but if you ask them questions such as does the current mileage tally? Is the mobilo life still intact, and is there a 'full' mb history, you should get the idea.

Hope that helps.

When i was looking at the CL55 i rang the dealer and asked him for the service history, he said if he got permission from the owner it would be OK which i did and got the full history.

a nice dealer will tell you providing you dont call them when they are very busy.

but be warned... I have heard of many a mistake on this system... Techs recording mileages from the star machine which are in KM, which in turn can look like there are mileage discrepancies.

I've never had a problem - they faxed over copies minus the personal details. Once you get one dealer to do it they follow suit.

Luck of the draw.

MB Chesterfield wouldn't help me "Data Protection Act, guv" twaddle.
MB Brooklands would help me, and even printed off the previous service invoice.

If the service book is missing , a replacement can be gotten and stamped up. IT does however have duplicate punched through it from front to back and looks bad , but will mean you have a record of the service history in a proper book once its all collated.

If you look on ebay you can find new books, that do not have duplicate on them.

I have this (duplicate stamped through the book) with the SH of my CLK55, however my friendly dealer printed out the ESS sheets and other stuff which verifies the full history of my car.

Our new car now has the digital service book. No service stamps or anything, just a digital record stored with MB. Ties you in somewhat (you still get printed confirmation when you've done a service, but the actual book is 'virtual'). Still not sure if like it or not - the old stamps always worked for me....
