Version 10 for A/B/C/CLK/ML/GL/R class with DVD based mapping is now available (although most MB dealers dont know yet) !!

It does not have 7 digit post codes, but seems to have the streets in Birmingham and Oxford that i noticed were missing in the past back again
(I'm happy to check any streets people want me to) - it also does an update of the firmware in the navigation section of COMAND.

MB UK RRP is £235. Its slightly more sensible at www.comandonline.co.uk and members here can have 7.5% discount until the end of the Sunday using the code mbclubv10 (put it in the box on the shopping cart page) rather than the normal 5% for only established members.

I hope that helps you!

Hello Richard,
I've just purchased a '55 ML320 CDi Sport with Command. The Sat Nav sucks compared to my TomTom 920T, so I'm driving around with two female voices telling me which way to drive - bring back 'back seat' drivers. Anyway, can you (or anyone else reading this) tell me how to check the version of COMAND I have (the DVD is 4.0) and whether the latest DVD (V.10 I think) will update the firmware (for whatever reason) and offer better postcode coverage. Currently I can't even find my own house, which is on a B road, whereas the TomTom goes straight to the front door. Any help, advice, etc, would be most appreciated.
Many thanks:cool:

On the ML (and A/B/old C/CLK/GL/R) the map disk is the main differentiator, and you already know you have V4.0

There are massive differences between V4 and V10, including TMC (dynamic re-routing) - the navigation firmware gets updated from the map disk also on the A/B/C/CLK (etc), you get instructions earlier & much better coverage.

Postcodes only let you look up the 1st 5 characters (i.e not the last 2 letters) on COMAND, which is a weekness compared to Tom Tom along with the lack of ability to put in extra data such as speed camera locations - however, its a very reliable well integrated into the car system, and I like it :-)

There is another 'processor' in the COMAND unit called the AGW, and there is an update for that which has to be done with the Star Diagnosis computer that the dealers and others have - if you have V10 and the traffic jams appear on the wrong side of the road you need that update done. System will work fine without that update apart from that though.

I'd get a new map disk if I were you !

Hi Richard

Does the new map disk have Jersey, and anything other than major roads in Ireland? (try Military Hill in Cork for example, which has been there for 100 years + but not made it onto V9)

if so I may treat myself to one sometime.
