Hi everyone, I cannot find anything regards this ( unless I've gone blind ). I have an E320 CDI 56plate with the following issue.

Start the car, put it in R, remove handbrake and then the foot brake goes rock hard then the dash board shows up "HOLD". This has happened a few times now but when driving the car runs spot on. Has anyone else had this, and if so is it a major problem?.

Happens when parked on a flat, the car is kept to the highest level in maintenance. So I just don't know what it is, its been a recent issue and ive never had it prior.

Rock hard footbrake indicates a loss of vacuum to the brake servo....either a vacuum pump fault or servo pipe/one way valve issue.

You are activating the Hold feature by pressing the brake a bit harder than normal.

Iv experienced that on mine

Thanks everyone, hasn't done it today and I did wonder if it was user error.

I've never had a rock hard brake pedal. I use the HOLD function on a daily basis...

Are you aware of the Hold function which engages the brakes when you stab the brake pedal while stationary ?
If you are and Hold is engaged without stabbing the pedal while stationary - you may have a problem, Houston.

For some reason it has all stopped, maybe a plugin to STAR.
