CLK320
I have a couple of questions, if anyone has any pointers!

First off , I've just bought the car, and for the price, what a lot of car, I love it!

Couple of things I need to do, apart from get a service, is clean or get a new Maf. Nothing really wrong with it, sometimes slow on the take up, and idle sometimes varies so I thought I'd start there.

Other thing is the aircon compressor isn't engaging, turn off EC (standard aircon system) and nothing happens. I think no gas in the system can cause this so maybe if I fill it, it will work.

The heater controls are acting up a bit, turn it hot when its set to blow cold and the hot air takes ages to come if at all, and the same applies the other way around. Have been reading up on the duo valve, maybe cleaning it or replacing it will sort it. Anyone had this before?

Thanks, and great source of info this site is.

Ed

If there is no gas in the system you won't be able to turn off EC as eh system shuts itself down to prevent damage.

Just for reference , EC light on means aircon is off.

Before you go swapping MAS sensors , get it plugged into a STAR. Swapping parts to cure problems is an expensive way of doing things.

Welcome to the joys of 208 ownership.

Welcome to the forum.

As Howard says, get it onto STAR before going any further. If you post your area, someone will no doubt be able to recommend an Independent Specialist.

Welcome to owning a CLK 320! I was told on this forum that its a cracking car and now, after purchasing one, I can understand why!

As mentioned above, get it on STAR before you do any repairs with the car.

Your AC problem may well be a gas issue.

My CLK320 also fluctuated alot on idle but after changing spark plugs from the not-recommended NGK plugs to the genuine MB plugs, idle fluctuation decreased significantly but some is still present. I recommended you either use the correct Bosch plugs or genuine MB plugs and nothing else. Also please makesure you use the correct MB specified oil rating.

Does your car seem to vibrate or shake when in D with foot on brake?

Also, you.may find that there is some delay between pressing the gas pedal and engine responding...apparently this has been reported by other owners also but in most cases a clean of the throttle valve should cure or atleast improve the delay.

Thanks for the welcomes and info it is indeed a great car.
Mbenz1 yes, it seems to shake in that instance and also the delay in engine response. I intend to run some carb cleaner through the intake, I have done it on a few cars I've had before and it works wonders for engine response and idle.

Please give us more history to work on: how many kms/miles, what year is it, how are the service records etc etc.

Use correct plugs, correct air filter, change fuel filter and as has been said so many times, if possible get it onto a Star machine which will show all the stored codes.

Yes they are great cars - fast, economical and still good looking:cool:

Enjoy and be safe.

I also get the shaking issue as well. I got the plugs changed to genuine MB plugs in hope that the shaking would go but unfortunately its still present... You may notice my thread about this issue in the next few days.

Please let us know how you get on with the carb cleaner.

I managed to get about 240 miles from full tank but that was when using the NGK plugs. Im hoping to get around 280-300 miles now that the right plugs and oil has been put in... Or am I asking for too much?

I will post my update in my thread soon

I cheered when I managed over 300 miles from a tank once. Normally I get about 250 but I refill as soon as the light comes on. Mine has same symptoms as yours which I will look into myself. I know the auto response on here is to stick it on star but I like to use some old fashioned investigation, like looking at condition of oil, plugs, filters etc myself.

I will, hopefully I'll be able to do it in the week but most probably it will be the weekend.

N300zxtt - did you have a twin turbo zed by any chance? I've had two, great cars but mpg was abysmal!

Yep I had 2 a J-Spec Auto and a UK Spec Manual. It got to the stage I spent more time fixing than driving so they had to go :(

Very nice, mine were black too. Used to take them for service and repairs at southwest zed, Axbridge, not far from Bristol.

Ok, so used the carb spray yesterday, disconnected maf and intake pipe, engine running and kept at 2k rpm I sprayed in short bursts 7-8 Times. Engine trys to cut out whilst spraying but if you keep the revs up its fine. A lot of muck was coming out of the exhaust although it's not the worst I've seen.

The slight "shudder" at idle seems to be at least less prominent than it was, so that's good but throttle response and kick down is much improved.

I did also change the air filter but the one I took out wasn't bad at all so I don't think it's all down to the filter change. I'm happier anyway!

Thanks for letting us know. At least the carb cleaner has made a difference to your engine
