I saw this e500 on ebay and thought of posting the link here as I've seen in the past a few forum members like this cars.

Never seen one this colour before.
Very high spec too and seems looked after

Very high spec for an E500. That looks like 5.5 litre 388bhp facelift car to me. (Spotlights, headlights, steering wheel etc)

Always a good sign that the first owner kept it for 12 years. Lovely consistent 10k a year and relatively clean MoT history. If it has been properly serviced and not lived outside all that time, it could go on for another 100,000.

Painful annual tax but RFL is still the least of the costs at this level compared to depreciation and maintenance of a vehicle in poor order.

Photos can mislead but generally there aren't many signs of high mileage on that vehicle, bar the scratches on the boot chrome.

Advert states it's the m113 5.0, and maybe just as well as the early m273 engines had issues. That's a lovely looking rare car, just shy of a sunroof and cheaper tax. It's done 3k more miles than mine, which drives beautifully, so don't let that put you off if interested, and I have no connections with the seller.

Understood. I'm saying it's clearly an E500 Sport "facelift" car which was launched in 2006 with the 5.5. The E500 Sport didn't exist pre-facelift.

If it's still on the 5.0, it's not a "normal" 2006 Sport, it's somehow a Sport car with the "old" engine.

If we can get a photo of the engine bay, we'll know either way.

It's a crossover car, Mike, which is one of its rarities and probably accounts for the higher spec. The description includes the original order spec, which includes:

Model E 500
Engine 113967 30 741941

You're right. Interesting.

April 2006 manufacture.

Yes, special order by that first owner, wasn't even a demonstrator, unless it was a re-routed demonstrator or first run car

This vehicle is dodgy AF.

The steering wheel, bumpers front and rear are incorrect. The alloys are aftermarket nine spoke and over sized.

The story has altered from when it was last advertised with poorer English on Gumtree last year.

A number of interested parties on PH have enquired with no response and an unwillingness to facilitate viewings.

The cruise apparently isn't working (the comment from one potential bidder didn't make it clear whether it was distronic).

I suspect (based on Miss Marple) that this has been in an accident at some stage. Possibly exported to E. Europe and re-imported, hence cleaning the history.

Shame, as it was originally a great colour and a 'tick all boxes' approach to options.

Could have been a serious accident; according to the datacard, it came out of the factory with a sunroof...

That 'Harman Kardon' speaker grille doesn't look like any I've ever seen, either.

Well spotted with the sunroof. So what do we think, is it a ringer? Perhaps VIN plates and running gear etc transplanted into another shell?

The car looks pretty genuine to me, that's the w211 sport kit it has on it from factory, steering wise the owner may have changed it, its a VERY well specced car. If he got that spec list using an online vin decoder, it can give weird results.

I searched for the VIN on the MB Xentry parts system -- the bumpers are a different design and the alloys are not standard. What else makes it into a 'Sport' which wasn't available for the M113 spec engine. There was Classic, Elegance and Avantgarde with (if you wanted a sportier look) "772: AMG Bodystyling (not available with E200 Kompressor and E220 CDI) (not with code 550: Tow-bar, manually, folding): £2,650 (includes AMG exhaust)". Admittedly, this information is from the 2003 pricelist, but I don't see it changing significantly before the facelift.

These are the options as identified them:
219 Autonomous intelligent cruise control (sounds rather grandiose!)
220 Parktronic
249 dimming mirrors
287 rear bench seat
401 Climatised front seats
414 Panoramic sunroof
433
434 Dynamic driving seat x2
475 Tyre monitoring system
616 Bi-xenon with cornering
731 high-gloss brown burr walnut wood trim
810 HK Logic 7 surround sound
872 Heated rear seats
889 Keyless Go
890 Easy pack tailgate
955 Elegance interior design

It doesn't have the Sunroof, nor the rear bench seat in the boot. The mirrors look different, too.

I'm beginning to wonder WTF has happened here...

Maybe the vendor is hoping to get a hefty deposit out of somebody before the auction ends? Or is there no actual car for sale, and it's a complete scam from the start?

It does have heated rear seats, or at least there is a pic of the switch. That would be a more difficult set of parts to source as they are fairly rare. Also dynamic and cooled seats. But yes, no sunroof or 7 seat option.

Mot history check states its a Diesel.
You're not the only one to have mentioned this. It doesn't show up as a diesel on my MOT checking app (Vehicle Smart), but perhaps that offers a clue to a previous incarnation?
