Hi guys,

I'm new to the land of Vito, this is a 2003 Vito 110CDI ( mk1 ).

The engine sounds quite loud to me, however i haven't got anything similar to compare it to.

If one of you guys with experience could take a look at this video and tell me if you can hear anything out of place or anything i would be much appreciative.

It does sound a bit loud, pretty sure I had a similar issue with my previous 1997 Sprinter 208d. I called out the AA and it turned out to be a simple fix.

I think it was a loose pipe rubbing against something that was causing the vibration.

Hi guys,

Ouch - the first half of your Vid sounded very tappy, have you got to the bottom of it yet?

I did notice you exposed the injectors, and no black death! I am dreading looking at mine ( when my Torx set arrives ).

I tried dropping the sump, to have a look. I've discovered that you can't drop the sump as the front subframe runs beneath it. I'm currently starting to strip the front to lift the engine up (but I only get a few hours every now & again

Looks fairly clean, my odometer says it's done 110 k
Did you know that you can also use conventional sockets on Torx bolts.? Not perfect, but works fine.

Hi StMarks,

No i didn't know that lol, there is not much i do know when it comes to Cars, especially engines!

I might take a look tomorrow, wish me luck! :)

.. wish me luck! :)
With pleasure. Good luck Matt:thumb:

Remember, life is one long learning curve. Even the very best mechanics didn't know a spanner from a socket once upon a time. :)

DannyDevito (on here) seems a helpful guy. He should be along before long & I expect he will be able to advise you about the sound of your motor.

Sounds ok to me normal for one with @ 150000 miles on it.:)

Thats encouraging E270, it currently has 136k on the clock. I havent done any oil change or anything yet.

I have filter and oil ready to go on that :), question is to flush or not to flush :)

Hi guys,

Well i took off the inlet manifold, and was greeted with the below image.

I Wandered about the bit of oily substance on the o-rings. I then moved on to remove the metal cover.....

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! ( doesn't quite sum it up lol )

A little bit of light poking with small screwdriver yielded lots of breakup and chunks coming off....

So, i got a load of crap to sort ( Quite literally! ) I know there are loads of posts about this so i will begin trawling them. Any tips welcome guys! ( Please be gentle with me ;) )

 Jeez Matt, that is not a sight anyone wants to see IMHO.

Mine may well be the same, but I only removed the inlets to try to locate the source of the tapping/knocking.

Now I've seen that I will have a look there on mine, and let you know.

Lol ye, i think im taking the bad news quite well so far, maybe it hasn't quite sank in yet :x

Good luck to you :)

I will update with Pics/Videos as i go for any other poor sod out there :D

Haha my m271 petrol engine sounds like that on a cold start! See yourself lucky!

After a couple of hours earlier on we cleaned up the bulk of the carbon with a small screwdriver and a bucket load of patience.

Light ran out, so here is where we are at now.

Can anyone out there let me know what is the best solution to help remove the rest, Wd40? Mr Muscle, Coca Cola?

Any advice welcome.

M

Mine sounds like that i think. And it looked like that too. I used chisels etc to just scrape of the last bits i could reach. Not much point in going mad on it. I had the rocker cover of the first time and pressure washed the top but the plastic plugs i just left as they were. Black c is now renting an very well priced injector seat cutting tool. You will need new seals and new stretch bolts to replace the leaking ones. Funny it looks like your leak is around the second injector as mine was. I wonder if thats a common one to leak ?

Hi Danny,

I Thought either the first injector or the first and second, if i spray wd40 at the base of injector and fire her up would i see which ones are leaking?

More importantly is it safe for me to start her up with all this stuff having been removed :)

Cheers in advance Danny.

Yes its fine to start it, often people can hear it chuff though i never could over the engine noise. And wd40 should be fine to spray in there

Well, I have been struggling to remove my sump again tonight, but I did get a picture of the top of my cylinder head.

On Balance, I'd rather have your black gunge & no knocking noise though.
